The AAC should not allow schools to enter any Tourney except the NIT or the NCAA. It screams mid-major and lessens the perception of all AAC members.
Wow. That’s a thing? I guess it makes sense in a way. You can tell I am not used to winning as a Pirate fan.07-coffee3

I think it's actually a league rule that we can't play in the CBI or the CIT, or whatever they are called.

USF won it in 2019, but no AAC team has participated since then

Maybe I'm wrong. Not sure. I know we won't play in them.

Love the all-flop team.

If nominated we will not accept.
If selected we will not play.

Disagree. USF won the CBI in 2019. That was a positive for their program and for the conference.

no its not... there is s a reason almost every aac team turns it down.. the bigger picture of the conference brands means way more than any extra practices or moral victory tournament wins

the conference fighting tooth and nail to remain nationally relevant and be seen as s high major

here is a tournament that only teams from 1 bid leagues accept invites to... here is the aac regularly accepting that invite.. and see the impact on recruiting

there is a reason almost everyone from a multibid league avoids it ..there undeniable benefits to have more games and more practices, but no one takes up on it for a reason

AAC midseason awards --- with potential notes about how it might be post season
(all -locks are assuming no injury)

AAC POY - Kendric Davis -- (at this point only him or Sasser have a chance to win it)

DPOY - Lomax, Shead or Craig porter - multiple other players still in it

FOY - Jarace walker (2 man race, him or taylor hendricks)

1st team all-aac

- K davis (mem)- lock
- m sasser (hou) - lock
- Khalif Battle (tem)
- david dejlius (uc)
- javon small (ecu) (wont be here at seasons end)

2nd team
- Z Phelps (smu)
- jarace walker (hou)
- t hendricks (ucf)
- jamal shead (hou)
- deandre williams (mem)

3rd team
- craig porter (wic)
- damien dunn (tem)
- jaylen forbes (tula)
- Sam Griffin (tuls)
- kevin cross (tula)

note: i expect jalen cook to make end of the year list.. darius johnson & nolley will have a chance too

Freshmen team:
- j walker (hou) - lock
- t hendricks (ucf) - lock
- Ryan Conwell (usf)
- Terrance Arceneaux (hou)
- Daniel Skillings (uc)
-- just missed: kalib lacount (ecu)

note: the seasons end team likely vastly different - ezra ausar (ecu) went from out of rotation to full time starter, probably on the end of the year team..emanuel sharp (houston) went from not in the rotation at all to 6th man the last 2 games, unclear if he will hold the spot, but will be a lock if he holds that 6th man role .. And j lawson has to be in the convo, but pt irregular

the all-flop team (not playing close to expectation)
- zach nutall (smu)
- kenny pohto (wich)
- sam Williamson (smu)
- tulane the program
- USF transfers
- Kao (mem)

the all surprise team (way better than any preseason projection)
- jwan roberts (hou)
- alex lomax (mem)
- most ecu players
- Brandon Betson (tuls)
- Z Phelps (smu)

Tournemt Bids

in contention for top 3 seed
1) Houston

Comfortably in the field
2) Memphis

Outside the bubble but realistic shot at a big
3) UCF

Fighting for a NIT bid (The "someone has to win" bracket)
4) cincy
5) temple
6) wichita
7) tulane

Battle for last place
8) ecu
9) tulsa
10) smu
11) usf

Expectations were too high on Kao. He's gotta be tougher ... he shighs away from contact too often. With Malco out for ??? He's going to get a lot more PT. Looked decent against A&M bigs so who knows !?! 07-coffee3

I thought he did a real nice job last night.

RE: Pesik's AAC midseason awards
I'm slightly torn on if I think ECU should consider playing in the CBI if we even happened to have that opportunity. If it's something that actually needs to be up for debate then ECU by all accounts massively overachieved it's preseason predictions and I'll be pretty thrilled no matter what.

Jarace is a projected lottery pick

Hendricks is a no as of now.. but he can play his way into the draft, especially if UCF ends up good

injury, and Hendricks has played too good to be supplanted ..interesting is if cj walker had been healthy from the start Hendricks would have been coming off the bench and ucf likely wouldn't have been as good. Hendricks is just a better scorer

so when walkers returns from injury he will likely be a bench player

PESIK is headed to the portal. Charlotte likely.

As for SMU basketball it been really different and a real test being a fan this season. In the past Jank loaded us up with cupcakes and at this point we’d be 10-1/ 9-2 and totally unprepared for conference play. He also would avoid tournaments saying he didn’t like to play back to back games… or three in a row. And we consistently under-performed the second half of seasons.

So here comes Lanier with ten new players and only one starter from last year. It’s been a total mess at times. We’ve been horrible. But there has been improvement as the roster and rotations take shape, culminating in a damn good performance in Honolulu this week with upset wins over Iona and Utah State. Tonight, for the third game of the tourney SMU is again an underdog vs Hawaii. It’s actually a home game for the Rainbows, making the stakes a bit higher and harder. I think SMU wins tonight and comes out of OOC as a far better team than those who don’t watch them suspect.

Nutall has made the crunch time shot that mattered in each of the last two games. Williamson will never be a 20 point average guy. But he has freakish talent and great Court sense. He’s more of a four star glue guy.
And defensively they’re pretty good.

I predict they’ll still get blown out at Houston in a few weeks but nobody else is getting off easy.

And, as I have predicted in the past…. Phelps is the most improved player in the AAC. 3.9 ppg last year. 20 ppg this year.

LFG!

I agree with everything you say in this post about SMU basketball

No way Charlotte lands pesik. Too far from home.

Rice is putting in a long shot bid though to keep him local
