I'm not sure how serious a threat they were to actually carry out their plan, but it makes for a great story. Lots of parallels to US fringe groups - I can see similarities with the January 6th insurrectionists, the sovereign citizens movement who don't believe in the federal income tax, and those nuts from a few years ago who said the US ceased to be a sovereign country at some point and is now just a corporation. But all with a twist only the Old World can provide - a crazy old royal pining for the glory days when his family had real power (albeit over a tiny area) and arguing that the German government has been illegitimate since the surrender of the Third Reich -

I know right an insurrection without a single weapon? Dummy
And by the way, the **** I have to donate my money to a corrupt shithole government when they can't even keep up with it? If I want to waste tens upon tens upon tens of thousands of dollars I'd burn it in my backyard fire pit. At some point when the government ceases to maintain itself I as a citizen dont have to fund it.

A much better movie would mimic the late WW2 liberated France, where those that colluded with the enemy, women included, were executed for treason for the comfort they provided to Germany. Those that have colluded with China, Russia, and Ukraine to enrich themselves (Bidens, Pelosis, etc. including Republican kids) being marched to a pit with a firing squad ready to end their miserable privileged and treasonous lives would be a glorious and needed moment in American history.

Are you outing yourself as a "sovereign citizen"? The IRS may want to speak with you about that, if you've put those views into action. Voluntary compliance does NOT mean that your taxes are considered a "donation".

A group like this that advocates a return to 19th century monarchical governance certainly can't be accurately labelled "far left".
There certainly are far left terrorists, but I think in general the left seems less amenable to the organization levels that allow grandiose plots to take shape. Far left terrorism more often looks like what we saw here in 2020 - the protest that spins out of control and turns into an angry mob burning businesses. or finds itself in control of the CHAZ for several weeks.

If racist progressive Democrat Woodrow Wilson wouldn't have demanded the German people get completely rid of a form of government the vast majority didn't want to get rid of in the first place then we might not have had this here fellow and all the "mischief" he brought about:
Churchill once remarked that Wilhelm II would have never named Hitler Chancellor, but even more, a stable German constitutional monarchy would have never had the extremist "fertility" to grow a "Hitler" from it that the Weimar Republic offered.
Regime change isn't always for the better.

A lot of great points in there, and I agree constitutional monarchy is highly underrated as a form of government. How different the last 100 years might have been if the German Empire post-WW1 had been treated more like the Japanese after WW2, and if Nicholas II had remained on the throne of Russia.
This reminds me of the Liberty City Seven in 2006. A bunch of incompetents in Miami Florida who got it in their head to bomb the Sears Tower, with no money or means to do so. Even the deputy director of the FBI called their plan, "more aspirational than operational."
Good article about the parallels between the far-right extremists in Germany, and our own problems with MAGA & Co. here in the US. Cold comfort, but we're certainly not alone in facing violent threats to democracy from disgruntled rightwingers -
