Around the CAA
We should probably have a thread for other games around the conference. So far the scheduling seems not awful overall.

Of note so far:
UNCW lost by 13 in Chapel Hill
Towson beat Albany
Northeastern fell to Boston
Hofstra won in Princeton
CofC beat Chattanooga
W&M lost bad to Navy
Stony Brook got smoke in Gainsville
Hampton forgot they had a game against JMU (losing 106-58)
Monmouth was blown out at Seton Hall

Tonight Towson plays at UMass.

RE: Around the CAA
Towson beat UMass

Tonight: A&T got absolutely smoke by Iowa. 3:32 left and already gave up 103 (while scoring 59)
Elon down 8 to ETSU at half
Monmouth down 14 early to UVA
Delaware lost to Air Force
Charleston was up 7 at half but fell by 16 to UNC
Hofstra beat the fighting Pitinos by 5

out of conference slate, overall, much improved across the caa

RE: Around the CAA
W&M fell to American
Hampton feel to ECU
NU fell to Harvard

Last night:
Towson beat UNCG
Charleston beat Davidson
Hofstra beat San Jose State
Stony Brook fell to Brown
Monmouth fell to Norfolk State
Elon fell to North Dakota

Comment on the general board. CAA has 12 D1 wins this season. Hofstra, Towson and Charleston have 11 of them (with our ODU win as the 12th). So not a good OOC for the CAA thus far

3 potentially massive opportunities tonight.

Charleston gets Colorado State at home in the Charleston Classic
Delaware is at Duke (can both lose?)
UNCW is at UConn

My power rankings write-up for those interested: https://csnbbs.com/thread-960368.html

It's light on UNCW info since I posted it to our board. Shykeim Phillips, Trazerian White, and Jamarii Thomas have been the standouts for a tough Seahawk squad.

RE: Around the CAA
if drexel's not going to win the caa...i'm good with a few teams breaking out and posting really good records. let's be honest. most people aren't going to look much deeper into a team than their record. sending teams to the ncaa tournament that are like 17-12 isn't helpful for our seeding. i'd like to see us send somebody with no more than maybe 5-6 losses. if teams like towson and charleston can get into conference play with only 1-2 losses...i don't see the conference cannibalizing itself enough that we send a 10 loss team unless there's an upset.

ideally spiker builds something from year to year and we're the caa champion with a good record over the next couple of years.

RE: Around the CAA
Couple opportunities last night, but none pulled upsets. Hofstra lost by 19 to Purdue. Towson lost by 5 to Clemson. W&M lost by 10 to ODU. UNCW did beat ECU a couple nights ago, who finished 5th in the Gulf Case Showdown just behind us. Still really no marquee wins for anyone OOC

League has continue to miss opportunities and hurts itself. Towson fell to Navy and Hofstra dropped to UMass (by 15). UNCW did beat Jacksonville. Monmouth lost by nearly 40 to Princeton.

I was shocked to see Drexel as high as 6 in your rankings. Then I saw the W/L records of the other teams in the conference....WOW! And that's not a good Wow.

RE: Around the CAA
Since OOC is over the "best" opportunities to position oneself is over and NET will continue to fluctuate, but overall these rankings are decently where each will land. Lets hope the bottoms teams dont upset the top teams and tank them.

Men's side:
53- Charleston
73- UNCW
124- Hofstra
155- Towson
193- Delaware
197- Drexel
280- Northeastern
281- NC A&T
286- W&M
331- Stony Brook
342- Hampton
350- Elon
358- Monmouth

Yes that is 4 teams in the bottom 10% of the entire NCAA. Oof. Charleston and UNCW need to just keep winning and run away with the league. I think CofC is the only outside shot at an at large assuming no setbacks (setback being any loss that is not UNCW, Hofstra or Towson and even Towson isnt going to look good at this point). CofC is currently ranked 26 in the polls, so I would expect them to crack the top 25 soon

Women's side
112- Delaware
113- Drexel
194- Northeastern
199- Towson
207- Stony Brook
227- Hampton
246- NC A&T
254- Elon
266- W&M
268- UNCW
279- Monmouth
281- Hofstra
286- Charleston

No top 100 teams this season. So that is disappointing. Top 4, maybe 5 should be competitive. Ironically the worst ranked team in CofC is likely in that top 5, which will pull everyone's rankings down. They have lost big to some teams, but they are young and definitely talented. I expect Stony Brook to be a player as well as us, Delaware and Northeastern. No at larges on the table, so its really about finding your best team for the CAAT and being the best version of yourself come March.

As usual, the CAA will be one bid land in both MBB and WBB. I don't see that ever changing unless the entire landscape of college basketball changes. Gotta make sure there's room for that 11th place team in the Big Ten.

Charleston has a shot. A real shot. Starting at 53 in NET is great. They will have to avoid the bad loss though or their hopes will also be dashed. But a gaudy conference record will put them in prime spot for an at large.

But wouldn't all of their games played against sub 300 competition bring their own ranking down significantly? I mean, maybe if they go 20-1 in the CAA with that one loss being the CAA Championship game. They have a chance but it seems like a longshot.

RE: Around the CAA
It will drop some yes. They are 12-1 currently. They are about to be a top 25 ranked team. If they end the season with 2 or 3 losses, they are fine. They have Towson and UNCW home and away. Hofstra at home. 5 games against the top echelon will help them. They can afford 1-2 losses to that group, though if they lose to Towson it would be better served to be on the road. They sit at 2-1 in Quad 1 games which is solid for a mid major. Currently UNCW on the road is a Quad 1 game, but they likely will be Quad 2 when all is said and done. Hofstra may be a Quad 2 as well (unlikely but if they dont drop to the bad teams they may stay afloat). If their only loss or losses at Quad 1 and a Quad 2 game, then they are in. Right now they sit with no bad losses. Avoid that and they are golden.
