I like the thought of wins against Coastal and App on the road this year. And then having both as home games next year. Especially after a “covid clown” year

We are obviously down this year, but ODU is definitely the most winnable game left on our schedule. If we can beat Marshall, ODU would make win #7. Fighting for bowl eligibility will lift the squad down the stretch, they are playing for themselves now and how they want to end this.

App does ok against average or worse QBs. Marshall’s defense is definitely good enough to beat us though, especially if we continue to be hard headed and run jumbo line formations…

No gimmes on the schedule. Marshall’s DL is excellent will force us to sling the ball. GS is now a proficient passing team that will test our weak secondary. Nothing looks assured at this point except I believe we are playing for pride, and there is still a lot of pride in this program.

We beat the number one west team and played within a touchdown of east leading team on the road. We are good, but inconsistent. Can’t have lapses like JMU or Texas State… the best teams don’t do that. No rationalization anymore. Seen enough to know what our problems are and we have not solved them yet… time to make the best of it and end this season on a high note. All that’s left is to keep our bowl record intact.

So to address your point about jumbos. If we can’t run the ball we cannot run our offense, period. To some degree I understand the stubbornness. We can’t run. Our OL can’t get it done and has been on the slide for several seasons now. Our RB production is bad. Not a fan of the rotating backs. That group’s morale looks really down. We have too many tap outs and not enough leaders in the RB room.

We are at an inflection point. We have been trying to double down on who we are… it’s not working. It’s not. Time for some self reflection and to try things that put us in the best position to win out the season and get a head start on next year.

Situational play calling is my point. No one is saying don’t run at all.

App has great young WRs and two very solid TEs. Use your weapons, especially against pass defenses like CCU. The gameplan and scheme and in game situational play calling was so far beneath what we saw from the other sideline Thursday.

Agree. And we came within a touchdown of a tie game having had a ball intercepted and returned to the two leading to a CCU TD and another offensive series fumbled away inside the CCU 10. We are saying the same thing I think. We can’t run like we would like to. Use what we have to finish strong and make us a better team in the process that will prepare us well for next season. Still think we could go 8-4. But we could also go 5-7. Gut check time.
