CRATERED! What we learned n Week 3
Everything that was great about the Sun Belt after Week 2 was destroyed by its performance in Week 3. https://howlraiser.com/2022/09/19/crater...in-week-3/

Tough loss for ODU. That one really stings. I really hope that FG doesn't mean the difference between going to a bowl game or not.

I don't think it was destroyed. Call it a hiccup. Growing pains of getting to the top.

We lost to Memphis. Again. With a very capable team that could have won. Again. Pardon me if I'm not happy.

Disagree, most nationally won't ever even know or care what we did this week.

We all know App State can count on Oldyeller’s NY6 support. I mean, you wouldn’t stop us again right?! 05-mafia

They sure recognized what Marshall didn't do this week. We were next in line to be ranked at 26th with 84 votes in the AP poll. After a week 3 loss, not a single vote.

It wasn't a disaster and nothing was destroyed other than a few good moods.

Marshall gonna Marshall....03-puke

That is hopefully the one yearly game we should have won that we find a way to lose and embarrass ourselves.

I was going to say this delivered a crippling but not fatal blow to the Sun-Belt's access bowl chances, but honestly all the G5 leagues right now are pretty weak. Only 3 remaining undefeated G5 teams are Tulane, Coastal, and JMU who isn't bowl eligible. Nothing personal to Tulane or Coastal but I put their odds of going undefeated at almost 0%. The access bowl participant is going to almost certainly have at least 1 loss. I think it's going to end up coming down to who has the best win and the least bad loss among this group. App has far and away the best win of any G5 program, and their loss to UNC is one I'd put in the "good loss" category (I hate the term but I do think it's going to matter who and how you lost this year). If Cincy were to win out they wouldn't have a great win but their 1 loss @Arkansas by 7 I'd certainly put in the good loss category. The other teams with close losses to P5 schools who if they won out would have a shot IMO are UCF (1 TD loss to Louisville), SMU (1 TD loss to Maryland), and ECU (I'm still not over the loss to State and may never get over it). Boise and Memphis have pretty lopsided losses to mediocre/bad P5 teams but both have enough name value that I could still see them getting it if they won out. Marshall has an A+ win on paper, but a crippling bad loss that I think would likely have them behind the other teams I listed if they have the same record. Right now I think I have Cincy/App as the co favorites for the way too early access bowl race, and I genuinely don't know who would get it if they both won out from here.

I'm focused on what is still on the table for Georgia Southern. It would be great to roll into conference play at 3-1.

That said, I expect the entire SBC schedule to be a prolonged rock fight - especially in the East. I think it's entirely possible that tiebreakers are needed to produce a 6-2 division winner.

If GS can't be in that spot at the end, having a chance to knock App out of an access bowl or SBC title game would be a nice early Christmas present. App probably catching a break though. The game is two days after Thanksgiving and a ton of our students will be in Atlanta.

Last week was an overreaction, and so is this week. Sun Belt is still on the right track, and reserved optimism should be the order for the day.
