2PC? If so, yea. my coworker/friend knew them too. Its just a sad deal all around.
Relevant to this subforum: It will be interesting to see what the very left leaning newly elected DA does in terms of how he prosecutes this. This case has struck such a nerve in this city that he's going to catch a lot of heat from almost everyone if he doesnt push for the death penalty.
I didn't hear Mulroy's presser but from what my wife told me it sounds like he played it right.
Another thing I learned over the weekend...
I learned a very influential local guy received a phone call from the Police Chief explaining why there was a police presence in his neighborhood.
This tells me that local officials still have to play ball with the movers & shakers regardless of their political leanings.
This is Mulroy's first big-time case and it happened his 2nd day on the job. He can't afford to start Soros-ing it at this point.
Plus, the new state law that went into affect on 7/1 says violent offenders must serve 100% of their sentence.
I don't see Mulroy reducing the charges. If they stand as-is or if more get added (sexual assault, abuse of corpse, etc) then this dude will never see the outside of a jail again. That is, if he doesn't fry... still the preferred colloquialism. Today capital punishment in TN is via lethal injection.
Those who were convicted of crimes prior to 1999 can choose the chair if they prefer.
