When I hear Jim or anyone talk about "trying to close the revenue gap"...I hear clawing for an additional $1M here and scrounging another $1M there. Or just something someone says to try to make folks feel better. The gap got too big.

That was the goal eight years ago when we announced a network and signed a grant of rights.

Implement a promotion and relegation model. Align the schools based on their perceived value to tiers. Keep the conferences together as they are for all other sports, but move away from the conference structure in football with scheduling. Align the media deals to each tier. Allow a transition period with the revenue for those who are tiered lower than the rest to adjust to the change. Regionalize the scheduling within the tiers. Someone like Ga Tech, if they were tier one would be playing a blend of ACC/SEC schools most likely. This would kill a lot of the realignment in college athletics, because the bulk of the money in football wouldn’t be with the conferences, it would be with the tiers. The desire to move would be significantly diminished.

And most importantly, the money would be distributed appropriately to the schools.

Well... while the B1G and SEC have been expanding the ACC circles the wagons, clutches their GOR and worries about "more mouths to feed".

Then when the B1G and SEC grab what they want the ACC says "dang, life is just so unfair."
