I guess our latest weapon will get field tested in Ukraine. This may be a game changer.

It's a stealth technology transfer program. Not quite as clumsy as leaving $80 billion dollars of military tech to the Taliban, but it achieves the same goals of the leftist fools.

My guess is they are just Switchblades with extended range, longer loitering times, upgraded camera capabilities---and perhaps they even have a laser designator to aid in the use of laser guided smart munitions.

So, your next door neighbors house is on fire and they desperately ask to borrow your water hose. Shere Khan says--Nope. Not my house. Not my problem. Then his neighbor's fire rages out of control and eventually jumps to Shere's home. Of course, he his water hose ready and limits the damage to a portion of his home. Of course, had he allowed his neighbor to use his hose, his home probably is never touched. This is essentially where NATO is at this point. They are lending Urkaine a hose they are begging for in the hope the fire never touches NATO at all.

RE: Phoenix Ghost Drones
Here's a new weapon that's being developed. This won't be going to Ukraine, I'm betting.

Quote:The QUICKSINK program, a partnership with the U.S. Navy, aims to provide options to neutralize surface maritime threats while demonstrating the inherent flexibility of the joint force. This JCTD uses a JDAM to rapidly deliver an immediate effect on stationary or moving maritime targets at minimal costs.

“QUICKSINK is unique in that it can provide new capabilities to existing and future DOD weapons systems, giving combatant commanders and our national leaders new ways to defend against maritime threats,” said Kirk Herzog, AFRL program manager.

While torpedoes predominantly sink enemy ships via submarines, new methods explored through QUICKSINK may achieve anti-ship lethality with air-launched weapons, including modified 2,000-pound JDAM precision-guided bombs.

“Heavy-weight torpedoes are effective [at sinking large ships] but are expensive and employed by a small portion of naval assets,” said Maj. Andrew Swanson, 85th TES division chief of Advanced Programs. “With QUICKSINK, we have demonstrated a low-cost and more agile solution that has the potential to be employed by the majority of Air Force combat aircraft, providing combatant commanders and warfighters with more options.”

This latest experiment allowed researchers to assess the scientific and technology challenges associated with the QUICKSINK concept for operational use.

“A Navy submarine has the ability to launch and destroy a ship with a single torpedo at any time, but the QUICKSINK JCTD aims to develop a low-cost method of achieving torpedo-like kills from the air at a much higher rate and over a much larger area,” said Herzog.

Except the Russians often actually were running the systems. And that 205 number is probably understated. Thats the official number---but US planes that were lost to unknown causes or planes hit by missiles that made it back in such poor condition that they never flew again--- were not counted in that "shot down by missiles". The article you quoted from Wikipedia actually estimates that the real number of US aircraft lost to Russian missiles in Vietnam could be much higher. The N Vietnamese claim that about a third of all US aircraft lost in the war were due to SAM's (that would be about 1000 aircraft if true). My guess is the real number would be somewhere around the midpoint between those two numbers---say 600-ish.

During the Vietnam war, the Soviet Union deployed missile operators along with 95 S-75 systems and 7,658 missiles to the North Vietnamese. From 1965 thru 1967 Soviet missilemen downed nearly 50 U.S. attack or reconnaissance jet aircraft.[2][3] 6,806 missiles were launched or removed because they were outdated (including 5,800 launches[4]). In total, the U.S. lost 3,374 fixed wing aircraft in combat during the war; in both North and South Vietnam. According to the North Vietnamese, 31% were shot down by S-75 missiles (1,046 aircraft, or 6 missiles per one kill); 60% were shot down by anti-aircraft guns; and 9% were shot down by MiG fighters. The S-75 missile system significantly improved the effectiveness of North Vietnamese anti-aircraft artillery, which used data from S-75 radar stations[5]

The following is a list of 205 U.S. aircraft lost to surface-to-air missiles during the Vietnam War (confirmed by the U.S.)

faulty analogy

your nextdoor neighbor's house is burning down and you keep giving them cases of fancy mineral water and telling them they can put it out.

here is a another bottle. keep trying.

I'd rather fight a proxy war in Ukraine today than 10 years from now in Poland.

And yes, those are your choices.

It's a hippie delusion to think there are other choices.

I’m not privy to all the ends and outs of this Russian Ukraine war but I do know the more weaponry sent over there equals more deaths on both sides. I personally think this is going to end in a stalemate after heavy Russian losses. I’m not sure the Donbas will stay in Russian hands either. It all depends on how destructive the latest round of US smart weapons are and how much damage they incur. I watched a short video this morning and the guy talking said the devastation was going on inside Russia. The explosions were deafening. Take it FWIW.

I don't care who it is, if it's not Mexico or Canada we need to stop being the protectors of the world. The Biden admin brags about how many lives were saved in the Afghan pullout - no way to really quantify that but whatever - and now here they are meddling around in what could be the start of WWIII.

Whatever, we are doomed as the dominant life-form on this planet eventually anyway. Whether it's through attrition - everybody turns gay or the whole world becomes sterile and quits propagating the species - or through some mass casualty apocalypse we will be BOH.

Reading comprehension is important. It's doubly important for liberals like you who harbor delusions that a career KGB agent (Putin) desires peace.

Pull out your map. Next door to NATO is? Are we required to defend NATO? So, there ya go. Its not an ideal situation---but as long as we are in NATO, then making sure Russia never makes it through Ukraine is the best course of action. You want to exit NATO? Fine---but thats an entirely different discussion that isnt on the table right now. 04-cheers
