Coaching Changes
Elon just lost their Coach. Mike Schrage is going to step down and go to duke as an assistant coach. I thought he was dong a good job so I am happy to see him move along.

RE: Coaching Changes
Frank Haith, the former head coach of Miami, Missouri, and Tulsa, is an Elon alum.

Elon has very little basketball tradition.

RE: Coaching Changes
I bet being a Duke assistant pays more

We took UNCA's head coach to be our assistant coach at one time

CBB has changed dramatically the past three years. Higher pay, top of the food chain and less stress.

Dave Odom left his ezu head job to be an assistant at uva in 1982.

Could ya blame him?

I'd leave the EZU HC job to go be an assistant coach at Claflin.

In Odom's case it was a very good move. He worked under Terry Holland at uva & ended up at wfu. He was at ezu for about three years and correctly judged where things were headed.

RE: Coaching Changes
Tina Martin to remain Interim coach. How is she going to recruit in that position. Will have to rely heavily on transfers with only 1 or 2 years eligibility left

Recruiting will be very tough but with one year left on Barefoot's contract, it makes sense to give Martin a shot without a longer term commitment.

How much of a "shot" is she really getting though?

Totally different situation that came with some implied chances that were absolutely bogus .

Jay Wright is retiring at Villanova. Kyle Neptune, a former Villanova assistant who left to be head coach at Fordham, is returning to be head coach at Villanova.

Surprised he didn't announce a year in advance and have a retirement tour where the expectation was that he'd be honored and presented with gifts at away games.

In all seriousness, Jay Wright seems to be universally respected. Great coach and seemingly a good guy, i think he got it right. I see these coaches coaching well into their 70s and I think its a mistake. Retire at 60 and devote yourself to your family. Well done, Jay.

Agree

You have enough money and glory. Why waste your 60a chasing wishy-washy 18 year Olds who can change their mind on a dime.

Enjoy life

I see what you did there.... LOL He's also not the GOAT.. He is though a Very very good coach

I'm honestly shocked to see this, especially given how frequently he's been to the final 4 lately. If he stuck around another year or 2 real chance to go out on top.

I didn't mention Wooden.

I absolutely love it. The older I get the less meaningful "work" is. I get that I'm not the same as Jay Wright leading a Villanova, but I feel like I can relate. Also, NIL and transfer portal probably played a role in his decision. He had no interest in coaching in the NBA and after working with the Olympic team, he said there's no way he could coach those guys for 82 games. The idea of having 13 free agents every year has to suck.

You tell me to take off my blinders, remove my UNC hate and think objectively all the time. I'm asking you to do the same here. I don't like Duke either, or K. But You can't deny what he accomplished over his career even as much as you obviously hate them/him.

RE: Coaching Changes
For the sake of conversation, very interesting article. Arguments can be made for either. But as is often the case it's super hard to compare eras as so much has changed.

What makes Coach K better than Dean Smith?
