2022 Women's NIT
The women's NCAA selection show is tonight instead of the usual Monday night, so the WNIT field of 64 is being presented tonight with the brackets coming out tomorrow evening. This is good for the WNIT the bracket will come out earlier tomorrow rather than waiting until late into the night.

Drexel gets the automatic bid and Towson will get a bid as well. I don't think anybody else in the conference is worthy of one.

This team deserves a home game, but with the new AD, it will be interesting to find out if Drexel is willing to pay for one, considering that they don't draw well compared to other WNIT teams.

RE: 2022 Women's NIT
As expected, Drexel and Towson are in...

Some other potential regional opponents....
Bucknell (that would be an interesting one with Tessa vs. her former teammates)
FDU
Columbia
Quinnipiac
Fordham
Seton Hall
Stony Brook (future CAA foe)

Based on how the WNIT likes to localize first round opponents, I'm banking on one of these teams in the first round.

In typical Drexel left out fashion, they are tied for 2nd in the WNIT field for most wins (26) with Toledo. Only Liberty (27) has more wins. Hopefully that gives Drexel an easier first round opponent. I'm rooting for FDU.

Drexel should have gotten an atlarge bid if they beat COC and Marist.

issue with that is you're basically saying they should have gone undefeated. not an easy thing to do. unfortunately that's the mid-major world we live in.

i'm hoping for a game at bucknell. amy mallon said thursday in her tweet. i've been wating to get a squeeze dog from the squeeze in which is on the way to lewisburg in sunbury.

On another note...
Northeastern got a bid to the WBI, something that I'm shocked still exists. They will play Cleveland State in Lexington. It's an 8 team tournament with all games in one location. I guess it's like the women's equivalent of the CBI.

i'm hoping for a game at bucknell.

I have a gut feeling that they might have a home game, and they truly deserve one. If they play Bucknell, it would be great if it's at home. Our neighbor plays for Bucknell and when Bucknell played at Drexel when she was a freshman, there was a snowstorm that night and nobody could come see her play.

I think we will be home. Bucknell would be interesting. If its on the road, even more so. I hope Brugler comes out strong and not tight in that one. Sounds like its taking longer because teams are rejecting bids

I'm totally wrong with my choices. Drexel will host Norfolk State on Thursday night. Game time is 6:00.

RE: 2022 Women's NIT
By the looks of NFSU's schedule, this looks like a team that Drexel should smoke. 17-11 record, #2 seed in the MEAC. No really impressive wins. I know that WNIT doesn't publish their seeds, but it appears that Drexel got a good invisible seeding for this one.

RE: 2022 Women's NIT
If Drexel win's on Thursday, they would face the winner of Bucknell/Fordham game on Friday. I assume that game would be on Sunday or maybe on Monday, but not sure where. On the bracket it shows the lower team in the bracket as the host school. Bucknell/Fordham would be the lower bracket team in the 2nd round, but that's not always consistent.

In other CAA games, Towson hosts Old Dominion on Friday night.

RE: 2022 Women's NIT
not wanting to look too far ahead but vcu could be a third round matchup. it would be fun to reunite with them at least on the women's side.

i am looking ahead though because i agree norfolk state looks like a team we should handle. it depends on where we are mentally. tough loss yesterday and i wonder how they handle finals of top of basketball.

Fordham looks like a strong potential second-round opponent. The metrics seem to be pretty close. They edge us out by NET and Massey, we have the edge in Sagarin. Should be a great game if it comes to pass.

Fordham beat out Drexel in the 2nd round of the NIT, in 2018, ironically the year that Drexel lost the championship at the DAC. It was a hard fought 63-60 loss and Fordham celebrated the win like they had just won a championship.

Based that it is a 64 team bracket, that pins us as a 7 seed, which doesnt seem right. Fordham will be a tough out, a real tough out. The matchups after that get a bit easier if you survive

Drexel is clearly not a #7 seed. They work the bracket out as geographically feasible as possible, but it seems like stronger teams tend to get weaker opponents in the first round. I think the worst first round matchup that Drexel ever got was Temple, but at least it was at the DAC.

For those who can access The Inquirer, they had a nice little Drexel preview in today's paper. One note is that this is Drexel's 10th WNIT appearance and 12th season in the postseason overall. This is Norfolk State's first WNIT appearance and first trip to the postseason since 2001.

Crazy too. I have the shirt from their first appearance against ECU in 2010. Only year we missed postseason play was 2014 and 2020 (when everything was canceled). We have been fortunate to have had such a strong program year after year
