It was legal in America to hang someone?

No, that has been and remains murder! Lynching under this bill doesn't actually require a hanging, it creates a new federal crime that can be charged - "Under the bill, a crime would be prosecuted as a lynching when death or serious bodily injury results from a conspiracy to commit a hate crime."

Errrrr,
Can you point to the last time this has happened?

Mebbe

Do you honestly think this serves any real purpose? Other than inflaming fake “racial” animosity?

Most us get along just fine. Work together, eat together, drink together, play and fish together.

If you don’t, why not?

This is simple…. Idiocracy.

Truly SAD we’ve come full ‘tard around to this dumbschit yet again.

Just give it up. Just stop.

In this country 91% of black murder victims are killed by other blacks. 54.5% of all murder victims are black (while making up just 13% of the population). As a person or color, I am offended by the emptiness of this bill. It does nothing to address what is going on in America in this country on a daily basis.

Why is an anti-lynching bill needed? Isn't this already illegal?

Useless waste of time. Show boating for some feel good photo ops. Next, we need a pass a bill saying it’s illegal to behead folks. Stupid is what stupid does.

For everybody who didn't read the whole thread, the antilynching law is not just about any one race, or about hanging someone. This bill creates a new federal crime that can be charged in addition to the underlying murder, assault, etc. - "Under the bill, a crime would be prosecuted as a lynching when death or serious bodily injury results from a conspiracy to commit a hate crime." Hate crimes can be charged when someone is targeted for crime because of their membership in a protected class - race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.

So murder is worse if it is committed against a person of a protected class?

Not just committed against a person of a protected class, but motivated by bias against that person because of their membership in the protected class. So murdering someone of any race is murder, plain and simple. Choosing the murder victim because of their race is murder + hate crime.

All those words that don't change anything. Seems like more posturing, and nothing else. Making something more illegal seems like a waste of time.

Yeah, but why let facts get in the way of a feel good story.

Was lynching not already illegal?

For everybody who didn't read the whole thread, the antilynching law is not just about any one race, or about hanging someone. This bill creates a new federal crime that can be charged in addition to the underlying murder, assault, etc. - "Under the bill, a crime would be prosecuted as a lynching when death or serious bodily injury results from a conspiracy to commit a hate crime." Hate crimes can be charged when someone is targeted for crime because of their membership in a protected class - race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.

Of course Dens need this hate crime law because no one bar none flames racial divisions more than Regressives.

Errrrr,
Can you point to the last time this has happened?

192?
Mebbe
195?

Do you honestly think this serves any real purpose? Other than inflaming fake “racial” animosity?

Most us get along just fine. Work together, eat together, drink together, play and fish together.

If you don’t, why not?

This is simple…. Idiocracy.

Truly SAD we’ve come full ‘tard around to this dumbschit yet again.

Just give it up. Just stop.

So murder is worse if it is committed against a person of a protected class?

Not just committed against a person of a protected class, but motivated by bias against that person because of their membership in the protected class. So murdering someone of any race is murder, plain and simple. Choosing the murder victim because of their race is murder + hate crime.
Which is why "hate crime" laws are so stupid. Punish the act, not what's in a person's mind or heart. When you make a decision to punish more harshly based upon "protected class" or someone's beliefs that do not meet up with your own, you become very Orwellian with Thought Police; and one step closer to such penalties being levied against different political parties, religions, etc. Slippery slope, and I want no part of it.

No surprise Leftists believe in degrees of murder. In fact they think some murder is just responsible birth control. Others are worse because the murderer committed the significantly more horrible crime of being a racist about it.

Nonetheless, murder or attempted murder is still illegal. As is conspiracy to commit murder or attempted murder.

I also don't understand why attempted murder doesn't get the same prison sentence as murder. Just because someone is sh!tty at killing shouldn't get them a lesser sentence.

Does anyone know the history of lynching in the U.S.?

Anyone?

Democrats had many tricks up their sleeves to prevent blacks from voting: poll taxes, whites-only primaries, literacy tests, grandfather clauses, multiple ballots/multiple voting locations, hide-and-seek polls, etc.

But the MOST effective way to prevent black and white republicans from voting was lynching.

Between 1882 and 1964 there were 4,743 lynchings:
  • 3,446 blacks
  • 1,297 whites

The Republican Party platform included bans on lynching. Democrats continuously blocked anti-lynching bills.

C'mon now, the "Party of Lincoln" is not the Republican party today. And the Dems of the 50's are more in line with the southern Republicans of today.
