I’m not sure he is either, but it’s worth a shot I suppose. I can see him doing okay in the G League though.

Yeah, that’s the most likely result.

It sounds like he's ready to get paid to play basketball no matter what, as opposed to another year at UNCW. I don't think staying improves his chances to play professionally either. And I agree on overseas.

With Samb leaving we have three scholarships left. Sure would like to see some action on filling those 'ships. Too quiet around here....

You guys are just antsy. On 11Apr, how much noise was there about Farrar to UNCW?

Just heard that Hackert is leaving. They are advertising for a new assistant coach.

I commented to a friend throughout the season about this but every time we had a timeout late (almost every game was a close game) who was Siddle talking directly to before huddling up? Particularly the 2nd half of the season. It was Hackert. Either we were really lucky or there was some statistical and strategic genius to those close wins. Travis is a big loss if true. But good for him.

Edit: He was also very instrumental in at least one of our young recruits coming in. Hold your breath…

We were the worst out of timeouts late in games often getting terrible shots or turnovers. Even the JMU buzzer beater where the credit was given to the play was en extremely tough shot in someone’s grill. If Hackert is really gone, I wonder if a certain poster here will disappear too

If this is true it’s quite surprising. Hackert seemed to be the next in line to succeed Siddle if he gets a P5 job in the next couple of years.

Keatts already filled his open assistant positions at State, other than that the only job I can see him taking is with Louisville, where he went to school and they have a new coach.

No idea if it was Hackert but I know we won almost every close game. No dog in whatever fight you’re alluding to. When we won a ton of close ones and I saw Hackert has Siddle’s ear at the end, I took notice. Correlation does not equal causation. But when you break the pomeroy model like we did you start to look for reasons why. Maybe it was luck? That’s what pomeroy says.

Edit: There were 2.1 seconds left on the clock for the inbound at JMU. Come on. If you get a non fadeaway clean shot off at all that is all you can ask for. Luck involved? Yeah a good bit.

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
It's a combo y'all. Hackert called the game winner at JMU but you had a Jalen "freaking" Sims executing. Hackert is excellent at coaching sets but you need studs to win games and make shots. He will be missed big time but someone else can step up hopefully and they can get a quality assistant. He was very good in his role no doubt.

Most of us knew that UNCW had the talent and they just needed to beliieve and they did so they won a championship. Thanks to Jaylen, they always would come back and win in almost every situation. Unforgettable run but if you followed it all year, you knew that it was never over with that group.

Hopefully they can keep the train moving now and there is talent available to keep winning. Half the battle is belief if you have enough quality guys in the fold. To me, they need another killer in the backcourt and another big or 2 that can play. The kid that played at High Point would be a great fit that was unreal but didn't have the program to showcase and also win. Guys like that would help...remember Ingram in this system? Shot makers that can fill out a stat sheet too that are high 30's 3-ball guys, make clutch shots getting it on their own and high FT % guys.

We shall see. Hopefully we can get some good ones to round it out. A quality big would help that can hold post position with some agility would help right about now.

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
Here is where we are after the last two commits. It has been said on other threads that we are "small", but I don't see that at all. What's crazy is that SIX of our guys are listed as rising sophomores two are incoming freshman. We went from a top heavy team with seniors, to a team with no seniors, two juniors, and the rest are sophomores and freshman.

Thomas So 6'0" 185lbs.
Newby Jr 6'1" 190 lbs
Phillips Sr 6'2" 180lbs
Morrissey So 6'4" 200lbs(no scholarship...yet)
Harvey Jr 6'5" 185lbs
Ross Fr 6'6" 190lbs.
Hodge Fr 6'6" 180lbs
White So 6'6" 185lbs
Farrar So 6'6" 230lbs
Samb Sr 6'7" 200lbs
MHHayes Jr 6'7" 185 lbs
McGriff So 6'8" 180lbs
VanDerH So 6'9" 210lbs
Kelly Sr 6'9" 235lbs

didn't Samb transfer? With only 3 guys that are 6'6 or above and 200 and above, that is LESS than the 4 guys we had that fit that same mold last year.

Pretty certain he just put his name in the portal. Not sure he’s been picked up by another team just yet.
