The congresswoman had first proposed the name change after some members of the community suggested honoring the late LGBTQ advocate Lorena Borjas, Ocasio-Cortez spokesperson Lauren Hitt told the Daily News. Borjas died in 2020. Her office has started taking suggestions for a potential name change. Hitt said it’s normal for members of Congress to consider new names for post offices.

"It seemed like a small but interesting way to engage our community in the legislative process," she said, adding that the congresswoman would take all community suggestions into account and was "very open" to keeping the Manfords’ names.

"You don’t take one pioneer of the LGBT movement and pit them against another person," Dromm told the newspaper.

He said he generally supports Ocasio-Cortez’s policies, but this was "typical of her not being connected to the community."

So now they know how it feels when they rename institutions and tear down statues; erased...

A ditzy back bencher like an AOC has a “spokesperson”. Wonder how much we get to pay for that?

What is it with leftists and renaming post offices. Bernie loves to do it too.

I call our local post office the post office. If it’s named for someone it would be news to me.

This. If anything they should take a page from the sports world and sell naming rights to corporations to gain a new revenue stream.

Why do post offices have to have names?

Memphis has gone for renaming streets for black city leaders. As a kid I played baseball in the 60's at a church called Oakhaven Baptist. I played for a different church but they held tournaments there. Now that church is a black church and the street is named after the black pastor.

Each city council person can rename one street each year. I have often wondered what it cost to have a street named after you.

I think I'm going to start naming Grocery and liquor stores.

street for me?

PS… I sure hope the Louisville Metro Council don’t here about this policy. We would quickly have a Breona Taylor St. or a Black Lives Matter Blvd.
