On paper UCF has a really nice group coming in. Will have to wait and see how that shows up on field.

Same with any class in any year for any team.

Only thing the portal does is give teams older players (vs 17-18 yr old HS recruits) that have already been in college programs for at least 1 or more years (many with college playing experience and all with strength/conditioning year(s) at this level) that could produce at a higher level in Year 1 at their new team.

NOTE: Not too surprising that just like with HS recruiting, P5 teams dominated the transfer portal market as well as Lincoln Riley at USC is at the top...and P5 are in the next 13 spots before the first G5 current team shows up at #15 UCF.

Interesting that overall rankings have UCF the top team in the new Big 12 after Texas and Oklahoma leave.

These services are looking for anything to get clicks and views and college fans are hungry for content. Ranking portal classes is just stupid. Then again I think ranking high school classes is stupid too. Maybe my view will change as UCF gets higher "ranked" recruits, but from my view most of our highly productive players historically have not been highly rated, and those that were have, on average, not lived up to the hype. I still believe that nobody does enough review of the recruits to get accurate evaluations of anyone other than the top 10-15%. After that it is a subjective BS designed to get clicks and sell ads.

so much this for me. when you go through our top gets over the years it's littered with disappointment. thank goodness for the under the radar recruits. my biggest thing with our recruiting is that we recruit size and speed and the coaches get to developing them.

Now that Free Agency is the norm....almost every HC has talked about just how important the transfer portal is and why they are saving 25% - 45% or more of their recruiting class spots open to transfer portal players. Heck, usf filled 2/3 of this year recruiting class with players from the portal.

When those "transfer" classes are that large...and have instantly become so important to a yearly class...its easy to see whey this one site has updated their transfer portal class rankings and more importantly, their overall recruiting rankings.

Heck...odds are most transfer portal players (many with college experience and/or at least a year in a college strength/conditioning program) have a much higher chance to make immediate impacts on the upcoming season compared to 17-18 HS recruits.

My observation from the portal (at least as far as Cincinnati is concerned) is that our best portal guys tend to be less heralded while the bigger names have been a bust. OL Dino Boyd from Rhode Island wound up being All-AAC and is playing in the NFL. S Bryan Cook came from Hampton and was All-AAC. He will be drafted this year. So will Darrien Beavers who came in as a skinny transfer from UConn. Darrius Harper was an excellent offensive tackle after transferring to us from Miami University (where he played basketball). Meanwhile, we've had 4-star guys from Ohio State and Penn State who wound up being a bust (obviously Jerome Ford and and James Hudson were special).

My point is I think it is a big crapshoot-- even bigger than recruiting kids straight out of high school.

Disagree.

I think its easier to evaluate a 20 or 21 yr old vs a 17 yr old who has never played a down in college football.

Yes...recruiting (even transfer portal recruiting) is a crap shoot too...but there tends to be more overall hits vs what 17-18 yr olds produce on average.

For UCF...they hit homeruns last year on RB Bowser (Northwestern) and DE Big Kat (Auburn), DT Ricky Barber (Freshmen All-American at WKU), did great till he got hurt and even RB Mark-Anthony Richards (Auburn) once he became healthy.

Heck, UCF's #1 TD receiver last year was Johnson from Tennessee..who had just 1 TD in 4 years at UT but lead UCF last year with 11 TDs.

Again, its all about early production with transfer portals...and thats why if you can land some with 3 or 4 years of eligibility, those could be monster home runs.

Funny how transfer ratings become more acceptable depending on how your school is doing there.

Anyways, as I said before, we will find out when they get to the school and either produce or will go elsewhere.

Congrats to everyone doing well in the rankings.

Not really, overall, conference is on par with PAC (6 sub 200 teams) and ACC (8 sub 200 teams) when you look at the entire conferences. Just means that UCF is in a prime position to drastically supercharge their recruiting if they are doing this still in the AAC. Current Big 12 has only 2 sub 200 teams.

How many PAC and ACC teams are higher than #31?
Remember what I keep saying the conferences are seen by their power teams.

So what’s 5he highest ranked team in each conference?

Cincy and UCF are already recruiting at a high level to prepare for the Big 12.

I'm anxious to see how the 2023 classes play out with a full cycle of recruiting under the Big 12/P5 moniker. Cincinnati is off to a really hot start already for 2023 with commitments from 5 of the top 25 prospects in the state of Ohio including 3 in the top 11.

I think Portal can be an important piece to improving a team or help out when there is a coaching changes (Ex. USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida), but as seen by the top 6 teams in ESPN's too early poll, they regularly dominate recruiting high school kids and then development. IMO, first two keys for elite success followed by things like transfers.

Transfer Top 10 2022:
1) USC
2) LSU
3) Ole Miss
4) Oklahoma
5) South Carolina
6) Arkansas
7) Florida St.
8) Nebraska
9) Texas
10) Florida

Recruiting Top 10 2022:
1) Texas A&M
2) Alabama
3) Georgia
4) Ohio State
5) Texas
6) Penn State
7) Notre Dame
8) Michigan
9) North Carolina
10) Oklahoma

ESPN Way Too Early Top 25 2022:
1) Alabama
2) Ohio State
3) Georgia
4) Texas A&M
5) Michigan
6) Notre Dame
7) Utah
8) NC State
9) Oklahoma St.
10) Michigan St.

True...as 2023 will be the first full P5 recruiting classes for Cinci, UH, UCF and even BYU.

UCF is already benefiting from the soon to be P5 move as they will have more 4 plus stars (and some 5 stars) recruits on campus this Saturday for their HUGE HomeTown Unofficial visit event.

Not sure the same numbers would have shown up if UCF were not moving up to P5 soon.

Lets not cloud the picture and tie recruiting rankings directly into which conferences are more powerful. In the end of the day, the Big 12 had many top 25 teams not named Texas and Oklahoma.
