Shykeim Phillips
Phillips is absolutely a wizard in the paint for a small guard. He can drive, pull back, reverse direction, reverse again, create space for a jumper or get all the way to the backboard seemingly at will. All so effortlessly and without having the ball stolen or turning it over. Cat like quickness.

Made me wonder if anyone could recall a player at UNCW quite like him. I can't think of anyone, can you?

RE: Shykeim Phillips
Now you had to go jinx my man! He’s playing well and picking his spots.

Antonio Howard loved that 10 footer in the paint too and had some quicks but wasn’t a finisher like Shy. Chris Jones was a bad hombre that had quicks. Timmy Burnette is probably the closest guy. Tim was freaking great but Shy is too. Elon’s Buford is extremely fast and probably the fastest guy in the CAA but not as strong.

We have some pieces this year but our margin is small because the CAA is much improved talent wise.

To me the most impressive thing is his ability to finish through contact for a guy who's not a big guy, but yet he plays so strong!

TJ Carter is who i think of for not only clutch, but ability to finish around the RIM

Shy took home CAA co-POW honors with Delaware's Dylan Painter. Congrats, Shy!

Phillips Lands CAA Weekly Honor

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior guard Shykeim Phillips of UNCW has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association's Co-Player of the Week after powering the Seahawks to three road victories last week.

The Winterville, N.C., product averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Seahawks swept conference games at Charleston, James Madison and Towson to solidify their hold on first place in the league. He shared the honor with Delaware's Dylan Painter.

Phillips, who is averaging 11.2 points and 3.2 rebounds for the 11-5 Seahawks, shot 53.7 percent from the floor in the trio of games. He has powered UNCW to a clean 5-0 record in the circuit.

He scored 20 points and added six rebounds in UNCW's 86-78 victory at Charleston last Monday at TD Arena. Phillips then added 14 points behind 6-of-11 from the floor with two boards and three assists when the Seahawks edged James Madison on Thursday in Harrisonburg, 71-70.

Phillips capped the unbeaten week by pumping in 18 points with five rebounds and two assists as the Seahawks outlasted Towson, 81-77, in overtime early Saturday at SECU Arena. Phillips went 8-of-16 from the floor to help the Seahawks defeat the Tigers in a showdown for first place.

It marks the first CAA honor of Phillips' career and the first Player of the Week honor for a Seahawk this season. Freshman Trazarien White was selected the league's Rookie of the Week on Dec. 20, 2021.

The red-hot Seahawks return to action tonight when they take on Northeastern in a 7 p.m. tip-off at Matthews Arena in Boston.

Stunning that UNCW is 5-0 in the conference and on an 8 game winning streak, and this was the first CAA honor for any UNCW player this season.

Sims?

White got ROW once.

This just goes to show though what we have been talking about every game someone different steps up!

Sims?

He's been solid, but I don't think any of his numbers reached POW levels.

White earned a CAA Rookie of the Week earlier in the season, at least. But that was back on Dec 20, when our win streak was first getting started.

Since this is a team that seemingly has a different player step forward each game, I'm not altogether surprised at this. Even so, yes, Sims should probably have gotten a POW at some point.
