Very few people alive know Memphis had a great football team for years, back when Murphy was the head coach.

Personal note, my uncle was his suite mate at Miss. State, and they remained friends through the years. Spook was a crusty old dude, but a good man. I'm glad this finally happened for his family.

He fought in Okinawa the same year my dad was there. My father was in the
87th Infantry. The movie Hacksaw Ridge was about that group. 50 thousand Americans died on that Island.

Edit: It was the 77th Infantry.

folks got hungry for a new face after 34 years as an assistant and head coach & he was thought too conservative and boring. a tale as old as time. fortunately Dr Humphreys was in still in charge and had already moved him into the AD office
