Gracias, and good luck in Fort Worth against Missouri

Yes, thanks, HiddenDragon for your service - good on you for pulling for Army with that. (I for one never take for granted support from enlisted Sailors or non-Academy officers.)

Pulling from the first post in this thread:

Quote:• Navy is fielding one of its youngest teams in recent memory. The Mids have 2 freshmen and 10 sophomores on the offensive depth chart and 8 freshmen and 10 sophomores on the defensive depth chart (10 freshmen and 20 sophomores combined). Navy is starting 9 freshmen on the kickoff return team, including Maquel Haywood who is averaging a school-record 36.1 yards per return.
• Due to injuries, Navy has had to start 9 different combinations along the offensive line in its 11 games and has started 5 different offensive tackles, 5 different offensive guards and 3 different centers.

Against a tough, tough schedule:
Quote:• Navy’s 12 opponents this year are a combined 89-45 (.664), which is the third toughest schedule in the country based on opponent winning percentage (does not include games against Navy).
• The ELO strength of schedule rankings by WarrenNolan.com also has Navy’s schedule as the third toughest in the country behind Indiana and Georgia Tech.
• The Mids have faced three teams currently ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, including two in the top 5 - Cincinnati (#4), Notre Dame (#5) and Houston (#21).
• Eleven of Navy’s 12 opponents are going to a bowl game, which is the most in the country. Among those 11 opponents is American Athletic Conference foe Cincinnati, who is in the College Football Playoffs. No team played the Bearcats closer than Navy, who lost to Cincinnati 27-20 on Oct. 23 in Annapolis.

Thanks!

No mistake -- this takes away a LOT of the pain of this season. 4-8 (3-5) isn't great, but that was against one of the toughest schedules in the country.

Keeping Army at "retain" the trophy instead of winning the trophy is huge.

Young team coming back for next year loaded...

This, we have a lot of returning experience for a change. I hope they don't all head for the portal.

Good win for the AAC too. Right now, we likely trail the MW in the computers for the "top G5 conference" CFP award. A loss by Navy would have hurt us even more, but this win helps narrow the gap.

The bowl games are going to decide that, and basically, it's like we've won our first bowl game.

Fagot went into more detail in the post-game presser.
That was not called.
There WAS a fake in the game planning to check to. In the event, Army overloaded on our right, so he was checking to change protections...miscommunication, big moment, the LS must have thought he was checking into the fake and snapped it to Fagot in the up back position.

I didn't see it closely live, but on replay, Fagot caught the ball on his facemask - could have been bad. And then he just went. Football players make football plays. When he played on O in high school, it was on the line, never as a ball-carrier. Which makes shedding #11's tackle and then the hurdle to guarantee the first-down yardage that much more impressive.

Here's the whole Navy post-game presser.

Coach Niumat wears his heart on his sleeve. Fagot and Warren et al talk about key plays, including the fake. And if you wonder about whether your rivals' players are listening when you constantly beat the drum about "National Champions of Toughness" or "The Last of the Hard"...Fagot's remarks near the end indicate those players are listening.

Glad we can finally help, after going 0-3 out of conference prior. We had strength of schedule numbers, but not Ws (3-8 Navy was still only as low as #95 - our ranking neighbors were 2 and 3 win autonomy conference schools and 6 win G4s).

Congrats Navy! Nice Win. Also nice fake punt (even if it wasn't planned).

Only the second for these seniors, who have had a rough ride the last couple years.
And we'll both do it again in 364 days.
