As I said before, with a 310 NET we are in the bottom 3 in the OVC. Lot's of room to improve. I assume the money we save in travel expenses will go back into the recruiting budget. Oh well, the sun belt didn't want us and kicked us to the curb after 30 years. Screw 'em.

RE: Ohio Valley Conference
Well staying put was my top choice, Missouri Valley next and Southland absolutely last. So almost hauntingly like being a Trojan fan for 35 years, we land in the middle with the Ohio Valley. I doubt few but we old timers even notice a difference in men’s basketball. I would think Foley will dominate the OVC and baseball will be a step down so if he can hold his players maybe we can be a top 3 baseball program every year as well.

Well I am here to congratulate you guys. I am glad .because it means we will get to see you the big dance often. On the other hand I am upset, because it confirms we will not be in a conference together ( although I believe that is our administrations fault). Hopefully we can do some nonconference games. Good luck04-rock

SKOEagles, is there an active OVC board anywhere? The OVC board on csnbbs appears to be inactive.

There is not that I’m aware of. Many OVC schools have their own boards and we occasionally hop in and read/write on there, but none for the OVC as a whole. Would be great if we had one. I think all the OVC team pages would like it.

RE: Ohio Valley Conference
George Lee is quoted in the press conference as suggesting that the OVC is a basketball-focused league that will match our goals well. I wonder if the OVC football schools might have a plan to go to the Atlantic Sun as football only and let OVC focus on basketball and all the Olympic sports. This would limit travel in everything but football, and solve both conference's football "problem". If the conferences work together in an amiable fashion, I could see UCA ending up in the OVC for everything but football.

I am looking forward to next season for 2 reasons. 1, the beginning of a new chapter. 2, we are dealing with an ungodly amount of injuries on the mens team. It can only get better.

No idea if this is true. Still, it seems their best bet is keeping what they have and finding one more football playing member.

You actually need 6. In the next few years there is most likely going to be at least one conference lose their auto bid and depending on where the 1st two schools go may two auto bids lost.

CUSA will def lose their bid, UAB, Charlotte and FAU will be heading to the American. While Marshall and ODU will be going to the Sun Belt and be joined by JMU Coastal Carolina, WVU, Kentucky, South Carolina and UCF.

CUSA will be left with only FIU and Liberty that sponsors men's soccer.

They can join forces with the MAC and help save their auto bid. The MAC will be down to Western Michigan, NIU, Bowling Green and Akron. If FIU and Liberty go elsewhere then the MAC will lose their autobid too.

Am I correct in saying that (since the days of Denver) we were the northwestern-most team in the SBC and we will be that in the OVC also? Am I forgetting someone?

Change northwest to southwest and it’s right. You got the west part right, but not the north part.

OVC women's basketball is rated slightly better than the SBC.

Unfortunately, the best men’s and women’s team Belmont is leaving, and the second best Murray State will announce their exit before the end of the year. I just hope they remain a viable conference.

RE: Ohio Valley Conference
Women's NET rankings
Belmont 78
Murray State 93

UALR 127
UT Martin 177
Tn Tech 185
E Ill. 190
Tn State 226
SIUE 245
SEMO 304
Morehead 354

When Belmont and Murray State leave, the OVC rating will drop dramatically.
We are leaving a 1 bid league that will have 14 members and going to a 1 bid league that will have 8 or 9 members. That will give us some room to hopefully add some OOC home games. I know Foley will make sure they are quality games. Hopefully the men will too.

Interesting note, the two women's teams on their way out of the SBC (UALR and UTA 111) have the best NET rank in the SBC. Of the 3 known teams joining the SBC, only Old Dominion has a better NET than UALR and UTA.

The bottom line is that we (hopefully) will be in a league that cares about something besides football.

OVC is a basketball first league by far. Even when we had Jacksonville State, they didn’t care much about it. That’s why JSU and EKU left. They wanted more out of football than the OVC wanted to give or cared about.
