Well $6,000,000 > $4,000,000
That looks like about $181,818 for my school. I'm not in a position at the moment to donate that amount, so I'm happy to let Cincinnati do that work.
It really seems pretty simple that I'm rooting for what's best for my team.
Interesting point on teams departing; if this were a departing program vs a remaining program, ECU, SMU, or Memphis in EXACTLY Houston's situation, I would probably be pulling for the program staying. Forego the short term six figure gain for my school, in order to have the conference stayers have another NY6 bowl under our belts. That would be good for the conference in the medium-term, and therefore would be good for my school. But they're both leaving.
An even MORE nuanced point -- note that I said "in EXACTLY Houston's situation." If an SMU or ECU or Memphis were in the CCG, but unranked, or far enough behind an SDSU or Louisiana that a stayer-upset meant my team's conference didn't even get the NY6 bowl? $0 for missing the NY6 is a lot less than either $6 million or $4 million. Honestly, it probably means another $1.5 million lost in CFP performance shares -- that would mean MY school missing out on $681,818...that's probably both OC and DC salaries. If that were the situation, I would probably be pulling for Cincinnati, and saying "We'll get those departing turncoats next year, conference-remainers."
