I know zip about this. But for either side to state affirmatively that they know it's on or not on, seems a little premature to me.

I don't buy the internet rumblings that Fickell is about to take the job, but I also don't believe that Fickell has a list with only 2 schools ​on it.

He reportedly already told Florida and LSU no, which makes the Oklahoma thing make less sense. I’m not saying the guy will retire a Bearcat. I’m just saying the timing and this particular job makes the least amount of sense. I would have thought USC, Florida, and LSU would have been better options.

We all knew Brian Kelly’s 2 schools when he got here were ND and oddly enough Boston College. Fickel bleeds Ohio State and he is incredibly religious as a Catholic. Thus, ND. He and his wife have never worked or lived outside of Ohio. Both families are here. All 6 kids are here.

Fickell is an odd dude who is wired differently. He’s telling kids like the 4 star Eugenio who just committed he’s not going anywhere. That commit said that in an interview a couple days ago. If he’s saying that, take it to the bank. He’s not going anywhere at least this offseason. That will bum out some AAC fans. Lol

Frankly, LSU is a mess. A HOT mess. They have now had two coaches ousted from off-the-field issues. It's the equivalent of a car that looks like it's "got potential" sitting out on a curb somewhere but, in fact, is really tons of Bondo with a $99 MAACO paint job over the top of it.

Does anyone really think that LSU didn't make any overtures to Billy Napier? Or Lane Kiffin? Or any other number of "name candidates" at this point? They agreed with Orgeron back in October...does anyone really think that LSU has been just sitting on their hands all this time? The point is, that, if they haven't just been sitting around doing nothing all this time, then they have reached out to several coaches over the past couple of months and have been rebuffed.

Could Fickell interview at LSU? Sure. And, as far as I'm concerned, he ought to. He's a top coaching talent. I don't think LSU is a good fit for him...neither is Oklahoma...but he should check it out. I'm also confident that the Coaching community talk amongst themselves and Fickell is well aware of LSU's issues.

I'm not particularly worried about either LSU or Oklahoma in regards to Luke Fickell. Ohio State has to be his #1, Notre Dame is probably his #2. Other Big Ten programs...Penn State, Michigan...probably would have been also high on the list. Could Luke Fickell leave for Oklahoma, LSU, or another opening this season? Sure. But we have zero...ZERO...indication he will or that any of these current openings fit his "long-game" strategy.

Well, you guys are closer to it than anybody else, but there have been thousands of examples of coaches saying things like that, and then turning around and leaving days later. Not many examples in the other direction.

Frankly, I'm pulling for him to stay. But I would never say I'm positive this or that coach is staying or leaving.

I agree. You never know, until you know. He does seem like an odd cat. From what I can tell he's family first and honest, which is odd these days.

I wouldn't be completely shocked normally. It's more the fact that he's already declined so many seemingly better options, at this point. Which is crazy to say, because I believe OU is a blue blood job.

Here’s the rub: Oklahoma and LSU surely are interested in him, but they want someone to take the job pre early signing day to avoid losing an entire class, and Luke isn’t going to be willing to do that as long as the playoff is still very much in play, which it is. And that assumes he would leave for those jobs, which is possible, but far from a Notre Dame or Ohio St level certainty.

This board has been telling my Fickell is gone for 3 straight seasons. I've never insisted he'd stay forever, but the bottom line is we don't know for sure how small the list of schools he'd leave for is. He's turned down some big money and big jobs before. Until there is something other than "X program is interested" or messageboard/twitter conjecture, I'm going to sit comfortable that Fickell is the coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.

It’s alll that some AAC fans who have given up hoping to compete with UC have to hang on to. Some of them get more worked up than UC fans do.

What outsiders don't fully understand is Luke alone is not calling the shots, wife has a huge part in this.....all their kids are enrolled in outstanding Catholic schools, they have a huge amount of acreage of which they have built buildings for workouts and other such things and his wife has become ingrained immensely in the community. they are going nowhere but to South Bend or more importantly Columbus....period.....
