How many teams will play SBC Football next season
Had to ask today whether we saw the last conference football games that Marshall, USM, and ODU played as CUSA members.

Simple question, How many teams will play SBC Football next year?

Please Note: This thread does not include whether UALR or UTA will be here next season.

I doubt JMU will. Got to transition next year. I hope the rest of the teams come in from the cold.

Hopefully Southern Miss will be a full SBC member in 2022, we would be thrilled to be there sooner than later.

No way USM and ODU are in for 2022 and Marshall isn't...unless for some reason the SBC isn't willing to run with 13 for 1 year.

No ill will intended. Comment based solely on Marshall slow approach to accepting, publicly, the invite to Sunbelt. If had my rathers we’d all be in the Sunbelt for 2022. Get the party started.

Would love to see the 3 FBS schools come in 2022. I know JMU has to transition. I voted 13 because im ready to get it started.

I hope that happens next season with all of us working with JMU on their transition. I can’t wait for the full 14 to start battling in the SBC. It will be fun stuff.

It wasn't that we were indecisive. We knew we wanted the Belt. We had to wait for the new President. That was the hold up. We had a lot of internal flux.

I talked to a guy yesterday who is very in the know. He said that we absolutely want to play in the Belt next year... We just dont know if its feasible financially. Of course, he might be holding the cards close to the vest, though.

I'm of the opinion that all the east teams find a way to have JMU as an OOC game in 2022, with at least 2 of them at JMU. Get that ball rolling.

If the new ESPN deal starts in 2022, I'm thinking that getting everyone over is just semantics at this point.

I think Southern Miss, ODU, and MU, can't get the CUSA logo off of our chest, fast enough. I hope a way is paved to move in 2022, and JMU too.

I’ll be equally surprised and disappointed if at least the CUSA 3 aren’t playing in the SBC next fall.

I think that would be cool, but wouldn't it require a waiver of FBS@FCS restrictions? Or are those out the window now that JMU is set to transition?

NCAA granted FCS move ups a waiver to be counted as an FBS next year since scholarships are higher than 63 because of Covid. 2 year transition still applies

RE: How many teams will play SBC Football next season
I definitely thought I heard rumors of JMU playing a Sun Belt schedule next year since we will be counted as an FBS team (new transition rules allow wins vs us to be counted towards bowl eligibility). If we did play we obviously wouldn’t be eligible for conference championship or bowls.

This would be best case scenario for us so we wouldn’t have to throw together a weird schedule.

The CUSA painted on the USM field was already being removed yesterday. It appeared as a smudge at the game with FIU.

Seems like an apt depiction of CUSA's leadership...a smudge.
