I’ll let GaSo and USM fight over the “Southern” name. USM comes in with lots of instant fights on their hands over colors and names.
We're only really referred to as "Southern" specifically in Mississippi. On a more regional / national scale it's almost always "Southern Miss". "USM" for shorthand and "Southern Miss" should have us covered. From a pride standpoint, I don't think there's any objection to Georgia Southern being "Southern".. more that it just could be confusing at times.

(10-26-2021 11:44 PM)chiefsfan Wrote: I'll sticky this later, but since we have so many new teams joining, its best we give a primer on how things work here:
1. Even though none of the new teams will officially be members, you guys are free to post here all you want. This includes starting game/discussion threads for your own games here if you so desire. If the game is televised or streamed, please put where so others can watch. All 4 new members can start game threads beginning with this weeks games
2. Moderation: Please remember that all team forums are moderated differently, while we are fairly lax here, we ask that anyone avoid the typical things that cause problems here: 1. Discussion of Liberty in general. 2. Poking fun at names of other Member schools, 3. Taking threads wildly off topic. Remember, what may not be a rule on your own team site (specifically JMU or ODU) might be a rule here. Don't worry though, we're going to give a lot of leeway as mods for a while until everyone gets used to each other.
3: So when do boards get transferred over? The answer to this is complicated. Team boards who are on site are allowed to decide amongst themselves when they want GTS to move their forum over here. I expect ODU to choose to wait since the CUSA forum is active. JMU will be left up to their mods. Since they don't have an active conference forum over there, they could move early if they wanted. Individual mods on the CUSA forum due to move over will not move until 2023 so the CUSA board can maintain a mod presence (their entire mod staff minus a UTEP fan is leaving
4. SBC Mod additions: Needless to say, if the board continues to stay active, we will likely start a process to elect a new mod to join our team. Until that time, expect some community policing. Mods of our new members are welcome to take action against threads over here that violate CSN's rules.
Again, welcome to all our new members. We hope you find a great home here, and happy posting!
I noticed a lot of political taglines lately from a lot of the new posters. Seems like a way to run down the political road all while trying to claim you're not running down the political road.

I figured this is as good as a thread as any to ask, where is your basketball tournament held and how much longer will it be there? CUSA had a requirement that both mens and womens teams had to play in the same city, which made it more restrictive. Does SBC have the same requirement? Any ideas for potential future sites?

Tournaments are held in Pensacola at the Civic Center. Men play one day women play the next day

Right now it is held in Pensacola, contract going through the next few years(not certain how many). They did a great job last year, close to the beach, wiphich is nice for you more northern teams, weather can be awful or wonderful, just depends on the day you are there.

It is, and it works wonderfully. They are so sensitive.

Yes and they are allow to make fun of App fans and goats. With love of course
I actually got a 15% warning from Cat Mom years ago for making a goat jab at App. It was crass and I was a visitor. I humbly apologized. Good to know that’s kosher now though. Is there anything to the App goat thing or is it just cause there hillbillies? When I got to CUSA and saw goats associated with WKU I’d assumed the latter, boy was I wrong.
yes there is a thing, but its actually g.o.a.t, South Georgia fans are bad at punctuation.

I think this is largely true, although i will put in a caveat that you can pick an all-time rival and root for them to always lose to Central Connecticut State or whoever (FYI Ga Southern DID in fact lose to Central Connecticut State).
One of the key differences to CUSA, is I think other than Ga State most of the schools here know that the SBC is our medium to long term home unless geographic realignment happens. The only way for us to improve our own teams perception is for the conference to improve its perception. Some of the problem in CUSA was it was filled with fans that thought CUSA was just a placeholder until they got the SEC invite, so they had no vested interest in seeing CUSA succeed long term, only in their team moving on.
Its very important for the conference that all teams (except South Ga) win all their OOC games and then lose to App State. UL didn't get the memo this year, they will be brought back in line soon.

Georgia St fans will have to rethink that after the realignment this year. Make yourselves comfortable and enjoy the Belt.

All I know is that I can't wait for the rest to be in the fold. The future is definitely brighter in the SBC. We fight amongst ourselves, but we are family.

The Bubas Cup is real, and it lives in Mobile.
It’s named after the first commissioner of the SBC, Vic Bubas, not some hillbilly red neck made up crap.
Each year it’s given to the school with the best overall athletic program, and like I said before, its home is in Mobile.

Oh the basketball tourney is a 15 minute drive from my house. Incredible. I wish we could join immediately for basketball.
And we don't have to fight with App State over colors. According to Google Pantone 115U, Pantone 116C or Pantone 871C are acceptable colors for App State colors. We use Pantone: PMS 122 C and Pantone: PMS Black 6 C for ours. So we are all good.

Too bad we didn’t finish out the spring sports And just to be clear for the newbies it’s Bubas (pronounced boo-buhs) - not Bubbas.

What's the hold-up over Liberty. They are insignificant.
