I work in media...I'm not a reporter but I know GS beat reporters and I can tell you GS isn't expecting a merger. They are expecting to add 2-4 teams to the current SBC lineup.

I can tell you the administration at Marshall/ODU/WKU/App have been working on an eastern based G5 for a couple of years now and that plan is still being worked on.

Keep working on it and UTSA may take your seat.

LOL....you all keep hitching your wagons to SBC West and JMU/Liberty will take your seat in the new eastern based G5.

RE: Tweet: CUSA and SBC Merger
This is never how it happens with realignment. Never.

Schools in both conferences will always vote for what's in their best interests, not what's good for the group as a whole. As long as one conference is better than the other or has more money than the other you'll always have a huge contingent of schools who are against a merger like this.

Bro, I didn't tweet that, nor have I written countless articles from the national media over the last few years talking about it, nor am I the Marshall President who mentioned this, etc ,etc, etc.

And App realized they didn’t have SBC support to continue. The West said no, the Alabama schools weren’t interested and even Georgia Southern questioned it

I have no doubt it has been discussed but I'll believe it when I see it and I will add that while I'm hardly a deep pocket donor to GS before I give another dime I would want the AD or President to publicly lay out how moving to this new fantasy conference will be better than staying in the Sun Belt. It would need to make equal or more money from media, have a share of the CFP payout, have auto-bids to the NCAA and provide better regional travel for fans while still getting us good exposure. If it has that I'm good...if it doesn't count me out.

It’s now looking more likely that App CC Gst and GSU join Liberty in the eastern based CUSA.

RE: Tweet: CUSA and SBC Merger
Efforts to create mergers and largescale G5 geographic realignments have been reported by The Athletic, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, etc. Each outlet confirmed that those efforts existed. And that they've failed.

I'm sure the FAU guy heard some real things. But his admitted editorializing is incorrect based on every other report out there.

You are the most wishy-washy poster I've ever seen.

You can't make up your mind on if you're sold on Marshall staying in CUSA, moving to the SBC, or just waiting on a merger to happen.

You CUSA people also strongly believed the well-positioned MWC was going to, for some reason, make a merger/alliance with CUSA years ago... and we see how that went. Were there talks between CUSA/MWC? Yes. But it never became anything more than that... for many reasons.

I'd have to imagine all logical options would have to be exhausted for the SBC before they decide to just merge divisions with CUSA.

The CUSA/MWC merger advanced pretty far along. But once the conferences found out about all the big strings attached -- especially with respect to tournament credits, bowl payouts, etc -- they ran screaming from the idea.

Which just makes the idea of a CUSA/SBC merger even less likely.

To be clear every SBC program wants Marshall in the SBC. Marshall drags their feet hoping for a G5 league similar to the ACC, they will be left out. The SBC league office will not be held hostage by a program that isn’t currently in the league.

Even the Appalachian State administration is growing tired of waiting.

The App St administration will be joining this new eastern based G5, so there's that. They have been working on this WITH Marshall for a couple of years now. You don't throw away a couple years worth of work/planning on a whim.
No, they haven't been doing that. This is offseason fantasy stuff.

So here's a question:

Would LA Tech rather remain in a watered down CUSA without UAB, USM, Marshall, and let's say UTSA

OR join a western merger of CUSA/SBC without UAB (AAC) and UTSA (MWC).
