RE: This week's Intentionally ambiguous SBC expansion rumors
On a side note, how many fcs lifelines are left?

As an app fan, I could see the opportunities drying up in the early 2010s and while the sunbelt meant a lot of questions being asked by me when it happened, hindsight says it was 10000x worth it 6 years later. However, as the team that now is in the FBS I question what is the media value for in remaining fcs teams. I think JMU is there but idk if I’m sold.

I'm all in for Marshall/USM, and done.

If C-USA is comprised of trainwreck programs, do we really want to take many of their programs?

But if we MUST add four, I guess throw in UTSA and WKU.

JMU, Jacksonville State, and Sam Houston State are going to be the rebuilding blocks for what remains of C-USA.

No disrespect to JSU because they run a fine program as we saw with Florida State. But I can’t see them being a viable FBS program yet.

9k undergraduate enrolment in a very small college town. Attendance continues to grow and the athletic budget would obviously grow if they moved, I’m just not seeing them as ready.

I remember during the last realignment that UTC was mentioned. I don't think they showed any interest in moving up, but they have some nice facilities already.

Do they? I was in Chattanooga in August for a weekend getaway (highly recommend, BTW. Beautiful, underrated city.) The stadium looked like it scarcely been updated since App State's championship games from '05 to '07. If they're ready to update, great! But Nooga struck me as a Vols & SEC city that would never get fully behind the hometown team the way a Boone, Troy, or Statesboro does. They're another one where I say they could be left for the C-USA leftovers to rebuild with.

RE: This week's Intentionally ambiguous SBC expansion rumors
1. USM Golden Showers and Rice? FAU? UTSA?

2. Marshall. This move is a gamble for them and they are going to make sure they get their way.

3. Marshall and FAU want to make sure the AAC is out of play before joining. USM and one of the other bird schools are in.

4. WKU has made a pitch. Based on absolutely nothing else I'm going to guess that the other 4 teams that made pitches are USM, Liberty, Marshall, and ODU.

5. I agree with the other posters that the two non-FBS schools were JSU and JMU.

6. Had to look up Tunica on google maps and my heart skipped a beat when I saw how close it was to Memphis, but after reading the subsequent post about the Mobile Bowl, I think that all but confirms USM is headed to the Sun Belt. Welcome Golden Showers!

What is the fascination with WKU? I just don't see any value at all in bringing them back in unless it's somehow a package deal with another east coast school.

RE: This week's Intentionally ambiguous SBC expansion rumors
I will take a chance:

1. SBC currently has 3 bird mascots (ULM, CCU, and Georgia Southern), doubling that would mean USM, FAU, and UTSA.

2. Based upon the arrogance some of their fans repeatedly show, this has to be Marshall.

3. This one is a tough one, as a number of options can be at play, including adding Memphis football. So, I will not attempt this one.

4. School that made a pitch but is not longer available is Memphis (but football only, which will not be accepted). The other 4 are WKU, FAU, USM, and UTSA. Another pitch soon I guess is Middle Tenn.

5. JMU and Jacksonville State, with JMU giving a pitch. CUSA, and LA Tech, UTEP, UNT, UAB and Rice have not reached out.

6. Tunica is a little over a half hour from Memphis, but is a great distance from both Hattiesburg and Jackson.

Please take a look at the wording on #1. I said Double or Almost double, depending on your definition of what constitutes a bird.

Also, 6 was further clarified by a story on the Mobile Bowl.

I really deleted because I thought they had been left out of the convo then saw they were included. Either way you made this way more fun then the conversation has been for about the last 7-10 days.

ULM's mascot is technically an homage to a plane correct? When Chiefsfan said "double or nearly double depending on what you consider a bird" I took that to mean double if you don't consider a Warhawk to be a real bird and nearly double if you do. That's why I said there are more than likely only two bird schools in the mix not three.

CUSA is like a singing ship with everyone looking for a lifeboat. We can only take so many and possibly only 2

I was waiting for someone to bring them up. Everyone assumes that a Warhawk is a bird But is it really?

I'll try to do this again next time I get a leak.

When it was introduced it was presented with a double meaning. First it was in homage to General Claire Chennault and the P-40 Warhawks and secondly it referred to the many hawks that nest along the bayou that runs through campus. ACE is a hawk in a WWII flight jacket if that tells you anything.

If we go with near double then, depending upon how a Warhawk is classified, I say #1 is USM and FAU.
