The system is rigged for a small group of people who'd sell out the country to China to make quick billion, and congress cares more about their silly #OrangeManBad commission.

Or they could stop spending money on stupid "trinkets" and save for a larger down payment. What I'm getting at is how much uneccessary crap does the average American spend their money on? A LOT. I see people who have boats who I know for a fact have financially no business owning one. Same thing with trucks especially. They want to "look the part" out in public but go home to an over priced rental then ***** about how expensive houses are.

Yeah these aren’t people that are wasteful spenders. They do have a lot of student loan debt, but that’s pretty much a requirement of getting a doctorate degree unless you have rich parents. Paying $2000+ a month for student loans.

You should've stopped there. Lots of book sense. No common sense. That's almost 2 mortgages for me... All tied up in student loans. Lol.

People who quite paying rent and mortgage due to covid gotta start paying again. Shouldn't be a problem seeing as how there are Help Wanted signs hanging on nearly every business I've been into for the past 6 months.

The greedy landlords. How dare they expect tenants to abide by the lease (contract) they signed. It will be the county courts that will have to deal with it.

RE: Eviction Eve
More Left Eats Left: AOC Rips Apart Biden WH for Not Being 'Forthright'

Quote:The Democrats are in disarray over a variety of issues. They’re in disarray over the reconciliation bill, with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) indicating they wouldn’t be supporting it in its present form. Among their issues with it: it’s too expensive. But the Democrats are also in disarray over the eviction moratorium which expired last night.

As we reported earlier, some of the progressives, like Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) have camped out in protest on the steps of the Capitol trying to get action from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Leftists even posted an eviction notice on the door of Speaker Pelosi’s home in San Francisco.

While Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) doesn’t appear to have camped out with other members of the Squad there (figures), she did visit. She also appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” to push the cause.

AOC said that they had to “call a spade a spade,” that they couldn’t blame the Republicans when the Democrats were in the majority. She ripped her fellow Democrats in the House for not voting for an extension and hit out at the White House for not saying anything about it until the day before — when they’ve known for a month about the Supreme Court decision that would inhibit their action. She claimed the White House was “not being really forthright.”

She’s both right and wrong, in regard to action on this. Yes, the Biden White House seems to be very slow and ineffective at everything, so they didn’t fess up until the day before. But if the House, with Pelosi in charge, really wanted to do something about it, they’ve known for more than a month themselves. They could have done something before. The bottom line was they voted against it.

From Washington Post:

Biden’s plea came as House Democratic leaders tried to corral support among their caucus to push the eviction moratorium deadline until October, an effort that turned into a herculean task as the leadership tried to whip support at the 11th hour before the House started its nearly two-month recess. The effort ultimately failed.

About 20 moderate Democrats opposed the extension because of concerns that the period was too long for the federal moratorium to continue without oversight of how efficiently money previously approved to stem the evictions was being distributed to tenants, several Democratic aides said on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing internal negotiations.

So government — and specifically, the CDC — created this problem to begin with when they issued this moratorium, which is likely unconstitutional because they have no right to simply declare a moratorium on rents. Right now, there’s actually a lawsuit underway from landlords calling this an uncompensated taking of their property violating the Fifth Amendment Takings Clause.

But now, with money distributed out to the states and local governments through the COVID bills in December and March, a lot of that money is not getting to renters or landlords. So, what they have is a big mess, completely created by the government.

People aren’t losing out on buying houses here because of their down payment. People moving here from the north and west, as well as institutional investors are bidding tens of thousands over ask, waiving inspections, and paying cash for an immediate close. Normal people simply can’t compete with that.

They’ll get something eventually, but there is a massive housing shortage anyway, and competing with massive corporations for homes makes it even more difficult.

Im building, and while I’ll have to pay significant more than I would have just two years ago, at least I’m not competing with 30+ offers made on a property in less than 24 hours.

#smart … I designed, wired + hvac, and outsourced the rest for 167k/2560 ft2 that sold for 260k after Kat….I told muh ex not to sell that fkr…it would go for an easy 500k today…

The West Coast housing crisis is starting to show up in the rest of America.

Several years ago I read an article about housing prices in the San Fran Bay area.

A massive office building that had once housed General Electric had been converted into a homeless shelter. But the residents were bums and mentally ill people off the street.

These residents were gainfully employed. The article spoke with a couple about their situation. The husband was a software engineer and the wife was a nurse. On their combined income they could not afford housing.

Biden to issue targeted moratorium on evictions via the CDC even though he has no clue as to the legality of such a move. I guess he's just thinking that going through the legal process will give time to implement the moratorium for two months.

So, in short, he's doing this with no clue as to if it's actually legal.

-People with money have to find ways to grow their money. It loses value everyday. After the housing crisis, less homes were built. Now there is a shortage of homes. Being a landlord is a great way to make money.

-The eviction crisis. There has been a moratorium on eviction for over a year. If you are receiving unemployment benefits and not paying rent, you should be able to come out ahead, no?

Idk where you live but they've been building non stop in Raleigh, Charlotte and the surrounding suburbs for at least 10 years now. As far as the rest of the post it's one of few I've seen that make some sense from you. I agree 100% with your 1st 2 sentences.

RE: Eviction Eve

Biden Defends His Illegal Order and Digs the Hole So Much Deeper

Quote:Typically, a president wouldn’t flatly admit that they pushed an illegal order (as already indicated by the Supreme Court even as Justice Kavanaugh left the door open) in order to abuse the court system and get what they want before there’s time to stop them. Yet, here we are, with Joe Biden doing just that.

When asked if his order was constitutional yesterday, his response just dug the hole deeper.

Take a trip with me, if you will. The year is 2020 and President Trump has just ordered the ending of the DACA program again, in the exact same way, even after the Supreme Court ruled he couldn’t do that. He then orders the immediate deportation of every so-called dreamer in the country. When asked about the constitutionality of such an order and defying the courts, Trump responds, “It’ll take time for those suckers on the Supreme Court to stop me and in the meantime, we’ll hopefully deport them all.”

That’s exactly what Biden is doing here. He knows he’s been told what he’s doing is illegal, but he’s doing it anyway with the expressed intent to gum up the court system and still get what he wants. If that’s not a constitutional crisis — a favorite phrase of the Trump era — I’m not sure what is. What Biden said there is how dictators speak. It’s an abuse of the system that goes further than even anything Barack Obama did.

The real question is what will anyone do about it? We certainly can’t count on support from the establishment Republicans to push back on this. For the most part, they’ve been silent (though, Mitch McConnell did finally comment yesterday). I suspect the meekness of the response from many GOP members is to preserve their precious infrastructure deal, which is just an insane notion when you think about it.

That really just leaves the courts. One challenge has already been filed. Hopefully, the District Court will put an injunction in place on the moratorium, allowing it to not hurt any more property owners while things are litigated further.

Even still, more must be done. The Supreme Court can’t act outside its own power, but it should use every tool in the toolbox to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I’m told courts typically frown upon process abuse and there need to be real consequences here to the extent that anything can truly be impactful. Various sanctions, scathing language in a decision that sets a real precedent, possible ordering of restitution, and whatever else is on the table. Break the glass and press the button. This is not the time for John Roberts to “protect the institution” via some extremely narrow ruling.

If Biden successfully runs out the clock having admitted he blatantly abused the court system to do something illegal and the courts decide the issue is moot, then this will just happen again. Nothing about that would be good for the rule of law or the country as a whole.
