46 year old gymnast in her 8th Olympics
She's pretty amazing to still be competing. As recently as 2016 was still ranked #1 in the world in her primary event these days, the vault.

Born in 1975 in the USSR, her first international competition was the 1990 Goodwill Games. First Olympics was 1992 for Unified Team. Then Uzbekistan where she's from. Later competed for Germany when she lived there while her son received treatment for a form of leukemia. Then back to Uzbekistan for more Olympics, World Championships, Asian Championships, etc. She "only" has 1 gold and 1 silver in the Olympics, in addition to dozens of medals in other events, including 11 medals in World Championships. She had already competed in her first olympics 5 years before Simone Biles was born

She says this is her last, but she has said that multiple times before. She has a 22 year old son, so she may be a grandmother when the next Olympics roll around. We'll see I guess. I don't think she's done yet.

An amazing body to keep going at that age.

Reminds me of a guy I knew in Houston, Bob Fletcher. He wasn't world class, but he decided to do 50 marathons to celebrate his 50th birthday. He had never done a marathon before. 10 years after his first he was up to 116 marathons. He did some of those marathons in the 2:40s so he wasn't just jogging. I think he was still doing marathons in his late 70s. He wrote a book, "Spaghetti Every Friday," about his year doing 50 marathons.

I think I've heard about him in those life insurance commercials. Didn't he pass away?

Haven't heard, but he would be 94 now.

Can you imagine the standing ovation she would have received if people were actually allowed to attend?

Sorry, I making a joke about a commercial I'm very tired of seeing. I guess you've been lucky enough to miss it:). The poor guy never does get a bite of that cookie!
