A total of 287 programs put "points" on the board. The only eligible programs (Tarleton, Dixie transitioning) that did not in the new WAC were Chicago State, Lamar and UTRGV. For purposes of the following exercise, I'll say they are 288. The average standing for eligible schools (not including Tarleton & Dixie State) is 200.6


Of the remaining eight Southland schools, only five scored. Those who did not were Nicholls, New Orleans and Northwestern State, who I'll list at 288 giving the SLC an average standing of 242.

Initially only posted P5 score because I was building a HASH to specify the conference for each school and sport. Ex.) Notre Dame Men's Ice Hockey in Big Ten. After alot of time tracking down conference membership per school and sport I gave up and generate using "Primary Conference" or the conference that the school plays most sports. Updated to use total score because most conference only had a few teams make a tournament and averaging in zeros makes it difficult to compare. Google page also has each school,sport for comparison, ex.) Big Ten wrestling scores higher than 12 complete conferences.

FBS football score for schools is calculated using the BCS final ranking starting in 1998 and then with the playoff ranking when it became available. No surprise that the SEC is overall the top conference , Georgia, Florida, and Alabama are the strongest trio of schools in any conference. Alittle surprising that Alabama was 3rd in SEC slightly behind Georgia and Florida, but that is because of those Mike Shula years, if this ranking started with Nick Saban's first year 2007 then Alabama is easily first in SEC and first nationally. Notre Dame is included with ACC, but even if their 990 points are excluded the Big12, Big Ten and ACC conference football scores are close. Looking at average score the SEC is first and then a gap to Big12, B1G and ACC+ND at 2a, 2b and 2c and then another gap to pac-12.

If pac-12 were to expand with the 2 highest non-p5 options using this ranking (Boise & BYU) then their average would only increase to 664.57 and they remain #5 with a slightly smaller gap. If pac-12 somehow expands with Texas & Oklahoma their average increases to 737.71 but Big12 with 8 schools swaps places and their average drops to 614.37. If Big12 (-OU&UT) adds BYU & Boise their average only raises to 667.10 and adding any other non-p5 schools does not improve their score with the exception of Notre Dame, with ND the Big12' (-OU&UT +ND,BYU,BSU) average increases to 696.45 and ACC drops to 688.71. This scenerio would be the most balanced P5 using this scoring.
