RE: How Many Conference Games Should Teams Play
Other conferences can do whatever they want. I would prefer my conference would play 10 conference games, and 1 other ooc P5 team that you play regularly almost every year. and
then for the 12th game, you split it up so half the time you play a ooc P5 that you don"t normally play, and half the time you play an FBS cupcake. P5 schools should never play FCS schools unless it's an exhibition game that does not count.

I like the 4 OOC games so whatever allows for the continuation of that.

RE: How Many Conference Games Should Teams Play
In every conference there are going to be some schools that want fewer conference games and some who want more. The elite schools want the flexibility to earn a big payday with an attractive OOC opponent, while lesser schools may want familiar opponents to make their paying fans happy. My argument would be that with an 8 game sked, both can get what they want, as schools that want to play more conference rivals can use their OOC slots to book them.
For example, Clemson would probably prefer a chance to book Auburn or Georgia over any conference mate not already on their schedule. Wake Forest, on the other hand, would probably prefer more games against UNC and Virginia. No reason why they can't both get what they want.

I guess that could be one way to get rid of permanent cross-division rivals. Set up a rotation that plays all cross-division rivals an equal amount. So for example, if you have 8 conference games in a 14-team conference, you play each cross-division team twice in 7 years. If there is a team you want to play every year, you would have to play them as an ooc game 5 out of 7 years. If there are 2 cross-division teams you want to play every year, you would have to play both of them as ooc games at least 3 times every 7 years.
You could argue thats unfair and I agree. But if the alternative is to force your conference mates to schedule 10 conference games, that's unfair too. Better just get rid of divisions and let teams pick their permanent conference rivals they play each year.
