No reshuffling would separate these two teams/schools.
Bias aside, there isn't another Group of 5 rivalry like it.
There is ... and it's called Army vs. Navy. And UCF vs. USF offers a lot of "hatred" between the two fan bases.
And in hoops, Memphis vs. Cincinnati.
Having noted this, the App State vs. Georgia Southern football rivalry is strong, no doubt.
Army/Navy is certainly a great example that escaped my mind although Army isn't a G5.
UCF/USF have played each other 12 times compared to 35 times for App/GS...not the same intensity or history in my opinion.
Memphis/Cincy in hoops...ok sure, definitely solid b-ball programs.
Good point about App vs. GaSo having played 35 times. That is definitely significant. A strong rivalry involving two G5 league members, indeed.
The USF vs. UCF rivalry is interesting for, in part, how USF was once in the Big East and then, due to circumstances, got "demoted." Relatively quickly and almost out of nowhere (definitely in football but, to an extent, in hoops too) comes UCF — a rapid rise that likely rankles lots of USF fans. That dynamic is fascinating, as you don't typically see it in other rivalries (it likely doesn't exist in the P5).
Though Army is not a member of the G5, it is a de facto member along with the other independents (notwithstanding Notre Dame, of course). As such, I consider Army vs. Navy — and hands down — the most historic and tradition-packed "G5 rivalry."
Another very solid "G5 rivalry" is Boise vs. BYU.
Can't disagree, Army/Navy is top-notch.

For comparison, Marshall vs Ohio have met 60 times with the first game in 1905.

I had no idea. That is extremely noteworthy. A strong rivalry, indeed.

So it seems that game can go on in another conference, or with the schools in different conferences, as it did for decades before CUSA.
Marshall, App State and Georgia Southern have a long history with each other from the Southern Conference.
I just looked those three schools up. The records I found say Marshall and Georgia Southern have never played in football. App State and Marshall have played six times. App State and Georgia Southern have played seven times.
And heck, I would want all three in the same reconfigured CUSA/SBC anyway.
We have played GaSo 6 times with a record of 4-2.
We have played App 23 times with a record of 9-14 but have won the last three.
That's strange. I guess the website I looked it up at doesn't count FCS.
Anyway, as I said, if I were a realignment God and could shuffle CUSA and the SBC, Marshall and App State would be in the same conference.
Must not. App-GS has a record of 19-15–1 App leading

What if it happened?
I'd be a happy man.
