Interesting..SMU lands 5* Recruit
Now watch his rating slip to 4* if he sticks with the Verbal through signing day because everyone knows they tend to favor Big Schools to boost up subscriptions to those services even though the actual player is a 5* talent. Good job to SMU and congrats...
SMU got a commitment from five-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson on Sunday, making him the highest-ranked SMU prospect since ESPN started its rankings in 2006.
Hudson is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver out of Garland (Texas) High School. He's ranked the No. 12 prospect overall and had a top list of Alabama, SMU and Texas.
He had been committed to Oklahoma, but decommitted in June and reopened his recruitment. Hudson took a visit to SMU in June, as well as Texas, but the Mustangs ultimately won out.

I wonder if there is a big NIL endorsement coming or if they just paid him the old fashioned way.

The Athletic Bruce Feldman on this scenario:
Do the Name, Image and Likeness rules move boosterism into the open and legitimize payments of third parties to players? Are we going from the clandestine hundred-dollar handshake to $10,000 for a television ad? If a booster wants money to go to a hotshot recruit for an NIL arrangement, is there any limit to what that is? — Michael
If the schools have their way, then the quid pro quo of, “I give you this duffel bag full of cash and you sign with my favorite school” will remain a black-market transaction. This also has been written into most of the state laws regarding NIL.
In reality? It’ll be even more difficult to police these transactions than it was in the past 100 years, when the NCAA was also inconsistent/incompetent when trying to police the under-the-table stuff. When I wrote 10 years ago that major college sports should move to this system, I wrote that such payments would be so difficult to regulate that schools should not bother trying to regulate them. I imagine the schools eventually will reach that logical conclusion. Here’s what I wrote for Sports Illustrated in 2011:
What about boosters? If Bob’s Tractors, which has a luxury box at Big State, wants to give Big State’s starting left tackle an endorsement deal, that’s fine. The argument against this is that the schools with the wealthiest donors would get all the best recruits. How would that be any different than what happens now? Except instead of a booster-funded team meeting room with Corinthian leather seats, some money would wind up in the player’s pocket. Coaches would still have to properly evaluate talent, and if recent history has taught us anything, many of them have not honed that skill. Less wealthy schools would have just as much of a chance to win as they do now. There would be bidding wars for top recruits, but again, how would that be any different than what happens now? Under this system, it would happen in the open instead of in the shadows, and it wouldn’t cost Big State any scholarships down the road.

I would like to think the young man made his decision, in part, due to the continued improvement and visibility of AAC football.

Rivals lists him as 4*.
Isn't this one of those commit/decommit kids? We'll see if he sticks.

Random question:
My profile has six elements, including "Warning Level."
Seems most of the other posters have only five elements and not "Warning Level."
I just read the rules of the board and could not determine why.
Help, anybody?

Everyone has "Warning Level". You just can't see anyone's except your own.

Well--one difference is the wealthy guys funding this transaction are going to start wanting a real say in who is and isnt recruited. I would think that would especially be true of schools who have a primary sugar daddy (or two) that fills this role.

RE: Interesting..SMU lands 5* Recruit
The Athletic on the commitment from the ESPN 5* and Rivals and 247 4* WR and what it could mean for SMU and the SMU approach:
SMU sparked some early holiday fireworks when it landed four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson on Sunday.
Hudson, formerly committed to Oklahoma, had offers from 18 Power 5 programs, including Alabama and Texas, his other finalists after he decommitted from the Sooners on June 14.
Though Hudson’s choice of the Mustangs among a who’s who of college football teams may surprise some, it is something Sonny Dykes and his staff expected.
Perhaps it appeared that the last time SMU pulled this off — when it signed 2021 quarterback Preston Stone, a four-star prospect and the highest-ranked recruit SMU has signed this century — was an aberration. The hometown kid bucked convention to stay at the local up-and-coming program.
SMU has gone all-in on local recruiting, selling itself as Dallas’ program to the dozens of blue-chippers within driving distance. It’s a tried-and-true strategy for programs in fertile recruiting grounds, dating back to Howard Schnellenberger’s “State of Miami” initiative that helped the Hurricanes rise to power in the 1980s. One of SMU’s American Athletic Conference counterparts, Houston, found similar success in Tom Herman’s two years there, using the #HTownTakeover slogan to land prospects such as Ed Oliver and D’Eriq King in its 2016 class.
Hudson — the 14th-ranked receiver in the nation and the No. 113 prospect nationally — is now the second-highest-ranked prospect to commit to SMU in the recruiting rankings era, behind Stone. From nearby Garland, Texas, Hudson is a physically mature receiver with a strong, powerful lower body who reminds some college coaches of former Texas Tech star Michael Crabtree, also a Dallas product.

This is what SMU is supposed to be for, a Miami FL for the DFW region.
