The average player salary in the NBA is $6.4 million while head coaches average closer to 4 million.

With all this football donor money coming from people who own businesses going to pay for head coaches that money could be redirected toward players.

It may start with a lower paying P5 school like Indiana which doesn't see a point of raising the coaching salary when they have a better shot of competing with the NIL deals. Then higher paying P5s may be forced into deemphasizing coaching pay to keep up with the market shift.

At the G5 level NIL takes the statehouse politics out of sports compensation when a program can get big NIL deals for its players while the internal politics might frown on Middle Tennessee paying 3 million dollars a year for a football coach.

Most of the people getting big NIL deals so far are people who are famous because of their parents. The school isn't even involved.

For most athletes, NIL money will be peanuts until they start making headlines for on-field performance.

These are developing kids who need teachers. The coach provides much more value-added than the players.

Look at the lottery picks in the NBA draft: they generally don't have NCAA success unless they play for an elite coach. The last NBA draft with a full season of play was 2019, and it featured 13 elite underclassmen in the lottery. 8 played for elite coaches (Coach K (3), Calipari (2), Tony Bennett, Roy Williams, Mark Few). Of the other 5, 3 of their teams missed the NCAA tournament.

Ja Morant (Murray State) - second place in a 1-bid conference, won conference tourney, lost in 2nd round of NCAA tournament
Darius Garland (Vanderbilt) - 9-23; 0-18 in-conference, missed NCAA tournament
Jarret Culver (Texas Tech) - ranked #9, NCAA tournament runner-up (arguably played for an elite coach in Chris Beard)
Jaxson Hayes (Texas) - 21-16; 8-10 in-conference, missed NCAA tournament (arguably played for an elite coach in Shaka Smart)
Romeo Langford (Indiana) - 19-16; 8-12 in-conference, missed NCAA tournament

07-coffee307-coffee3 I think your picture of all the Cincy players on top of the Tiger player is after the Tiger player crossed the goal line for a score !!!!!

Not just professional locker rooms, but college ones too. It might not have been over NIL payments in the past, but it was about playing time, coaches' preference, personal stuff, etc. That's just the dynamic of people working in close proximity with one another. Happens to every work space, be it a locker room, a traditional office, or, hell, even work from home.

I'm not sure Ricky Williams would agree about Master P's business acumen based on his Saints deal.
