If “just not interested” really is the true explanation, I’d agree with the “Who cares?” reaction.
But I suspect it’s not the true explanation.
It is, I suspect, at least partly another sinister consequence of social media.
As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's, I was scared ****less of interacting with girls. Yeah, I was intrigued, but given an option I would have avoided girls as long as possible.
I fortunately didn't have that option. If I was going to hang with my more courageous friends, I was going to have to brave it and figure out how to fake my way through these terrifying conversations and awkward dates. Nature eventually took its course, leaving me wondering what made me so frightened in the first place.
Social media provides an escape hatch/excuse for today's kids that didn't exist for my generation. If a kid today honestly has no interest in sexual exploration, more power to him. I am fine with doing away with much of the bullying directed at kids who were "different" (on any number of irrelevant factors) that happened routinely in my youth. But I sense that we have gone way to far in the other direction and have coddled, and even encouraged, dysfunctional behaviors that should be addressed.
Just an observation. I have no good suggestions for a remedy.

Getting old happened to me over the course of 2020. I went from a hi-energy, strong man to an old man whose lifetime of acting like I was bullet-proof made every joint and muscle in my body hurt all day and now I can't wait to get home and do nothing. I'd start working out again if I could find the energy. The last time I had a 30 year old interested in me was 5 years ago, I can't attract attention from 50 year olds these days. Of course I'm not looking for another woman but don't think I don't notice the lack of attention I generate these days.

50 did't do much to me. I could still hit a golf ball 275 yards or so, and get out and coach rugby. But 70 has been a real bear. Gall bladder surgery, prostate cancer, and arthritis have banged me up pretty good. Still walk 10,000 steps a day, but I ain't who I used to be.

RE: In 2008 8% of males between 18 and 30 were virgins
Having a teenage nephew about to graduate HS, I can tell you that with Social Media prevalence now the idea of being accused of something by a pissed off girl is a great way to kill a young man's libido. It's rough out there these days, and a little terrifying for men. You can't even move away from this kind of stuff following you now. And NO, it's not justifying bad behavior. A lot of these girls in HS these days are a lot more vindictive than I remember and have no fear of making stuff up to get back at you, because the consequences for them are minimal.

On the other side of the equation, Suzanne Summers 84 year old husband is hitting it three times a day. They’ve been married since 1977. God bless them.

It's not the age so much as the mileage and stress! And those 20 year olds have a Jocasta complex. They didn't have real men as fathers, if they had a dad at all.

I've noticed the last 10 years the worst behaved drivers are as likely to be young women as young men. The current generation is not raising enough ladies.
RE: In 2008 8% of males between 18 and 30 were virgins
I am so glad that those days are far behind me. Are there a few times I failed to score? Yes. Do I regret them? Yes. Would I want to go back and try again under today's rules? No f-ing way.

Best time for me was in my 40s. I was recently divorced, and partner in a consulting firm that ultimately got bought by a private equity group. I had bought the requisite red Corvette. There was a fairly upscale bar near me. I'd drive up, valet park the car, and walk in. There'd be an attractive lady at the bar who saw me pull up. I'd buy her a drink, we'd make small talk, she'd ask what I did for a living, I'd tell her. And on two different occasions with two different women, the next words out of her mouth would be, "I've got bacon, eggs, and milk in the fridge. Will that be okay for breakfast or do we need to pick up something else."

Ha, there are too many obstacles there for these kids.
1. They can't afford the Red Corvette and if they could they would choose a SUV because everybody on twitter has one and would give them a like for following the hive mind.
2. They would never show enough initiative to have your job and would lack the social skills.
3. They would never catch the subtlety of the breakfast proposition because they don't think with nuance and suggestion. They would look at the woman flatly and ask is it 2% milk and do we have to eat eggs I'm a vegan and pork is out.
And she would say it sure is.

For the record, yes I did stay for breakfast, twice. But they both ultimately turned out to be nuttier than fruitcakes, so nothing permanent came from either one.
