Duke back in the NCAA mix
ESPN is now saying Duke is indicating they will play the tournament if selected.

Don't let NET and other ratings fool you. Duke is now a major bubble threat.

Maybe CBS told the committee they want Duke in the field no matter where they are on the committee's board. 05-stirthepot

Well in fairness, i bet Duke saw that other teams in the same situation. like Virginia and Kansas, did not follow their lead but rather indicated they remained viable for the big dance, so why should they fall on their sword?

Don’t let talking heads fool you. With a 7-9 Q1/Q2 record and 2 Q3 losses, Duke is long gone. They’ll get the taste of missing the tournament tomorrow.

I think best case Duke is looking at being one of those 4 alternates.

Duke isn't that good this year, leave them out. Maybe one day, Duke and Kentucky will stop trying to getting all these 1 and done teams every year.

Good, now they can be left out, instead of merely taking themselves out.

I think they'll view this is just a 1 off situation. Unless the NBA changes it's rules.

Yes, I doubt Kentucky and Duke (or Kansas and North Carolina, and anyone else who can snare 5 star guys) will change their approach. This is a strange virus year. Not something to extrapolate from.

RE: Duke back in the NCAA mix
Duke and Kentucky were hurt by the shortened season, lack of practice time. Next year with everyone vaccinated they should get the full practice schedule in, especially pre-season which most of these one and done guys badly need to be effective.

On the flip side Oklahoma State and Gonzaga are doing quite fine with their one and done five star recruits. In fact they are higher up the NBA draft board than anyone on Duke or Kentucky this year. I guess some are better at learning by playing (or just flat have way more talent to begin with).

FWIW, Louisville, Duke, Seton Hall, St. John's and Xavier all decline NIT bids.
