Very interesting quote here from Lyle Henley:
“Seeing the opportunity to move forward, with regulations changing for the NCAA, guys getting an extra year, we’re basically going to have the same team back for next year. Plan on losing 20-something seniors and now you’re only going to lose 3-5 guys.”

Also, it's nice to finally see a game week article that doesn't simply recycle quotes from Clark's press conference. Good article.

I've been wondering about this... How many guys would take advantage of the "free year" of eligibility and come back when this would've otherwise been their last year.. Should hopefully set us up for continued success next year, even with not-so-great recruiting..

Could also be a reason for not so great recruiting. There may not be many spots available and the staff has a good idea who's coming back. You know we'll lose Watkins and Brown. If I had to guess I'd pick Tony Fair and Kris Moll as a couple others I could see trying to make it as a pro.
Even so, returning everyone else should have us in position to win the division again. Would be pretty awesome to host the conference championship game next year at the new stadium.

We’ve played 8 games and now possibly 10. I imagine some would call it a career if they finish with a conference championship and a bowl win in Birmingham. However, if this gets us an actual class of 25 for the 2022 class, I’m cool.

Maybe the recruiting is not so bad considering the results on the field.

Considering the results on the field is kinda the issue. Recruiting hasn't really improved along with our record and facilities. Coming off 9 straight losing seasons and with almost no facilities, there were more future NFL players on Clark's first team in 2014 than any since. Also have to point out that we're sitting at one win in each of the last two seasons against teams with winning records.
With a nice practice facility, a new stadium under construction, and about to go to our fourth straight bowl, I expected to be better than middle of the pack in woeful CUSA.
We've had some very good results at some positions, mainly defensive. QB is where our results mirror our lack of success recruiting to the position.

All of these needed improvements were effectively "catch up to what the competition already has" in nature. None put UAB in a leadership position among our competitors. We have partially closed the 30 year old facility gaps so now we can build even better facilities in the future. Standing still is not a viable option.
What has FBHC Clark proposed as our next steps for his program? Has he been asked?

Once you got out of the top 25 recruiting rankings are worth nothing. They don’t pay attention to the players that are on our level. You judge recruiting by wins on the field and so far it seems to be going ok.

That's great if all you care about are number of wins and not quality. We are 2-8 the last two seasons against teams with winning records (1-5 in '19, 1-3 so far in '20). Just ok isn't good enough in this market. If we want to expand our base and more than half fill Protective regularly, we have to beat some good teams. Tonight would be a great start.
