My friend in the hospital right now received it from an asymptomatic family member who tested positive after my friend got sick. They hung out indoors for an extended period of time before Thanksgiving, and THANK GOD he decided not to venture out for Thanksgiving because he hadn't shown symptoms yet. He showed them on Friday and ended up in the hospital on Sunday. Unfortunately his wife tested positive on Sunday too and began showing cold-like symptoms, but she's still quarantined at home.

That said, public health and economic strength are obviously tied. Additionally, losing 250K+ people (with more looming ahead) means we've lost millions of collective years of labor value (productivity, taxes, etc.). If you're an immigration hawk - which I assume many are here - the only way to make up for it may be immigration.

If anything, I think wearing a makes our capitalist economy significantly stronger for such a comically small price. Masks (in conjunction with other sensible health measures) can both saves lives and bring the economy roaring back.

There will be countless studies about the psychology of this whole mask debate in the future.
