RE: NIU Week
That was a good, competitive game. WMU had the more veteran team and scored 10 points in the last 6 mins when they needed it.

These last two games NIU has improved and stopped turning the ball over. First two games we had 7 turnovers, 4 of which were returned for TDs. These past two games only one turnover. Like the improvement these last two games. Wish we wouldn't play our corners 10 yards off the receivers every game but I guess they really don't trust those freshman one-on-one.

BTW, please tell Eskridge to retire from college football after this season. He's too good, he needs to leave lol!

So what happens if we lose to Eastern, Ball beats the Chips, & then our game vs Ball gets cancelled lol

BSU probably goes because they’d have a better MAC West record.

RE: NIU Week
Eskridge & Moore had our only receptions. Kincaide had just one carry for 3 yards.

Game was won on special teams & defense.

Not that I am equating the two, but that was one of the great things about the 2016 team. Sometimes the running game won the game, other times it was the passing game, a couple of times it was the defense.

Today was not our best showing. That said, we have figured out three different ways to win in the 4th quarter this year. Finding a way to finish is huge. I'd rather it didn't come to that today, but it is far better than the alternative.

We Will Finish the Large Dog OFf --at Wendys, in the bathroom -- and it'll scream like a BUFALO! (on the comment card)

No, but you guys realize you have the most Freshmen in the nation tied with Oregon?

You guys in 2-3 years are going to hurt us bad.

Because in PJ's first year -- I could tell we were getting better, and OMG -- we did. But NIU still hit us at home.

All I have to say is that you guys next year and the next are going to Hurt A Lot Of Us. Awesome Game. Your HC is actually better than I thought.

And in fact, Rod Carey is well -- we won't talk about him.

HUH? Hammock is HORRIBLE. Hope NIU keeps him for years.

Too soon to say on Hammock. The 4 teams we've played this year are 4-0, 3-1, 3-1, and 4-0. We have too many freshmen playing and the offensive line is a work in progress.

RE: NIU Week
In hoops, 0-3 Oakland (32 point underdog) pushed scUM to OT. Sadly they lost, but point being that stuff happens. Big underdogs aren't going to lay over, and if they sniff some momentum and confidence, they could ride it deep into the game. Will gladly take an ugly 3 point win vs. NIU.

My main concern moving forward is our injuries which will level the playing field even more against EMU.

Buffalo receiving votes again, close to getting officially ranked in the AP Poll (second team out), has some work in the Coaches Poll.

Was hoping we'd crack the Receiving Votes category, but not yet.

In the Coaches Poll, this is the bottom half of teams Receiving Votes. Need them to lose & we need to continue to win, starting w/ Eastern.

Colorado 27, San José State 19, Memphis 17, Boise State 15, Nevada 14, Boston College 10, Army 6, Ole Miss 3, West Virginia 2, UCF 1, Florida Atlantic 1

Looking at the 2016 roster, I didn't realize Eskridge was on the team then. I thought everyone on that team was gone at this point. Looking at his bio on the WMU roster page, it says his first reception was a Touchdown vs Northwestern, & that he missed the Cotton Bowl & the game vs Buffalo.

Is there anyone else from the 2016 team still w/ us? Looks like Jaylon Moore another one, but says he didn't play

Damn! That's a tough run for a young team. They will be better off for it next year, though.

We are pretty close to being a two loss team. I don't think we will be ranked this year, and probably don't deserve to be..

I think our team has tremendous potential, but our defense still leaves a whole lot to be desired, and I hate how Lester manages a game. He plays not to lose once we get a decent lead. He should continue to push on offense, and indeed run up the score if he can, right until either the game ends or we have scored 120 points. Sooner or later we are going to get burned by playing for a field goal to win, when we could be up by 21 points instead. We have a great offense; quit stifling it in order to run out the clock.

We've got a ton who redshirted, but got to experience it:
Crawford
Hinds
Brooks
Caliendo
French (played)
Moore
Curtis
Borske
Aguirre
Guillory
Asbury
Kanz

Even with a lot of high profile losses in that 2016 recruiting class, we got a lot of snaps out of them, including importantly offensive line dominance.

RE: NIU Week
Well... that NIU game was a tough one to watch... A few observations.

#1 - This offense needs to have a speed back option with good hands. Tyler was sorely missed. He has been money on short yardage for Eleby to check down... Jefferson isn't that kind of back... and Kincaid was limited due to injuries. Do we have anyone else who can step up?

#2 - The defense stepped up when they needed to... NIU's game plan was balls out from the start. I don't think I have seen a team that intent on not giving the ball to the opposing teams offense... numerous 4th and longs... fake punt... onside kick attempt... all in the first half! WMU had the ball for 3 plays and 45seconds in the entire 1st quarter!? WMU kept chugging along... no first downs in the 3rd quarter was not ideal... but the defense kept hanging on.

#3 - Sometimes you have to win the ugly ones... This team has incredible confidence and it showed in the NIU game. No loss of composure... kept things in front of them and pressed on for the W.

#4 - Injuries are on the cusp of derailing the momentum this year... Not many more injuries we can take without significant fall off at a number of positions. The defensive line is a M.A.S.H. unit out there...

Good win for the Broncos... Need to pull it together for EMU... complete game from both sides of the ball would be a nice change of pace.

Scenario 1: We'd need to WHIP EMU, dominate BSU, and then take control of an undefeated Buffalo in the MACC game and win that one by multiple possessions.

Scenario 2: We beat EMU, BSU, and Buffalo -- with our complaints and bit lips -- and then end up winning our bowl game convincingly against a decent team. We end cracking the Top 25 to end the season.
