Whatever happened to the Peace Pipe?
WMU/CMU use to play for the Peace Pipe back when I was there in the 80s. The thing looked like a huge bong. I think it changed to the Cannon Trophy in the 90s.

What happened to the Peace Pipe and why did that change?

Bongs are kind of dated. Guns are in. Cannons are big guns. So let it be written, so let it be done.

Last I knew, it was sitting in the corner of someone's cubicle in the Alumni Office in Walwood Hall.

I asked if I could have it back when Jamie Jeremy was still there. She said, "ummmm....no." Exact words :)

Unless I'm mistaken, the Peace Pipe was the trophy for Miami...

RE: Whatever happened to the Peace Pipe?
I stand corrected.... the peace pipe was for the Miami game. I assume we don't play them for a giant bong anymore. Too bad, now that weed is legal it would have more use between games.

RE: Whatever happened to the Peace Pipe?
I remember sitting in the stands (as a member of the BMB) watching the Peace Pipe being exchanged in a "ceremony" after the game in the pouring rain in 1987. Miami won (17-0, just looked it up). Miserable game as I recall. I think the Miami Ohio band was there and (cleverly) kept the Waldo faithful from doing a "wave" cheer during the game (the Redskin Band would just stand up when the wave came to them... it was kinda funny actually). Anyway, the Peace Pipe was exchanged at the end of the game when representatives from both sides met in the middle of the field... in rain gear and umbrellas. Only folks in the stands to witness this ceremony were both (soaked) marching bands and a few straggling fans not smart enough to just go home. Even both football teams were already off the field. At the end of the game the announcer said "...and this concludes the Peace Pipe ceremony..." (some random moments in life you just never forget). I often wondered if that game spelled the end of the Peace Pipe and the "ceremony" itself between WMU and Miami Ohio. Or if it all ended when Miami dropped Redskins for RedHawks (still should have kept the Peace Pipe, in my opinion).

If I'm not mistaken, BGSU and Toledo now fight for a "Peace Pipe" in the I-75 Battle.

As long as we keep the Cannon in Kalamazoo, I'm happy.

GO BRONCOS!

(and YES!!! KALEB ELEBY IS THE BEST DAMN QUARTERBACK FOR THE BEST DAMN FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN!!)
