I actually like Lou Esposito, but he is more hype man than he is defensive coordinator. He has the motivation/playing like your hair is on fire portion you want. It's just the important thing of being able to scheme a defense, get your players to understand and execute that defense, and game calling he struggles with.

Daoust was in over his head, and so is Esposito. Esposito is just far more likeable.

His biggest strength is also his weakness though. He gets players fired up, then doesn't know how to reign them in. So they go on to commit an absurd amount of inexcusable personal foul penalties.

Totally agree. Defense is best played with controlled aggression, otherwise you miss assignments, take incorrect angles, miss tackles cause you're out of position, etc...all hallmarks we see with his defense on a consistent basis.

The University has no $. No assistant will be fired. They either have to quit or have their contract run out.

I was equally frustrated watching the defense play, but you can emotionally get up only so often. The pass over the middle for the Eastern TD which was completely wide open bummed me out. Lester in the post game sounded equally perplexed by the defense, saying that they went for the onside kick with 5 minutes left because nothing told him that EMU wouldn't run out the clock. Our offense is GREAT, and the defense made some big plays, but unless we win the turnover battle and get more possessions, it could be a long day against Ball St.

Yep, it’s more likely to reassign position coaches or get a low level D coordinator in here
