Great Bill Maher monologue on teachers

All of it is spot on.
I still don't like Teacher's Unions and do think they have contributed to the lack of respect teachers get, but IMO a lot of blame can be put on bipartisan reform efforts that go all the way back to No Child Left Behind 20ish years ago. They put all the burden of improving scores on teachers while we increasingly don't recognize excellence and get rid of gifted programs and limit grade-skipping. That combination has been toxic.

Valid point.
But keep in mind the demise and decay of our public education came at the hands of the NEA and other teacher unions.
Because they allowed their union to force policy after policy which has contributed to the dumbing down and SJW-ing up of public education, they are responsible and I don't feel sorry for them.
They pushed garbage in schools and now people are fed up that our tax payer-funded schools are the laughing stock of the industrialized world.
Moral of the story: If you let your union in your name run down your profession, then own it.
