Biden lags among Florida Hispanic voters
Quote:MIAMI — Joe Biden is underperforming among Florida Hispanic voters while Donald Trump has marginally increased his numbers from 2016, according to a new poll in the must-win battleground state for the president.

Biden leads Trump among Hispanics by 53-37 percent in the poll conducted for Equis Research, a Democratic Latino research firm. While his advantage seems large, Biden’s 16-percentage point margin spells potential trouble for him because it’s 11 points lower than what Hillary Clinton received in 2016 exit polls, when she lost the state to Trump.

At the same time, Trump is running slightly ahead of his statewide Hispanic performance in 2016 by about 2 points thanks to increased backing from conservative Cuban-American voters and additional support from a broader coalition of Latino voters, specifically men, whom the president’s campaign has courted.

The poll results jibe with months of criticisms leveled at Biden for doing too little to juice up Hispanic support in Florida, as well as in other battleground states. The campaign this week responded by stepping up its Spanish-language outreach, spending more on TV and hiring more staff to change the trajectory — in two previous polls by the firm, Biden led Trump among Hispanics by 18 points in July and 17 points in December.

“Both sides are locked in a death match, with crosswinds blowing in both directions that make the race end up the way most elections do in Florida: locked,” said Carlos Odio, a co-founder of Equis, which hired EMC Research to conduct the survey of 1,000 Florida Hispanic voters. That’s a large sample size designed to capture a dynamic state population that includes Latinos with roots in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico and other parts of Latin America.

Trump neither needs nor expects to win Hispanic voters outright to capture the state in November. His campaign aims to keep the margins where they currently are and hopes that Latino turnout for this Democratic-leaning bloc remains as low or lower than it was in 2018, when Republicans won gubernatorial and Senate races by less than a half-point each.

RE: Biden lags among Florida Hispanic voters
The more the Democratic Party allows open socialists to have a voice, the better Republicans will do, because about a quarter of the Hispanic community in Florida is Cuban and risked their life coming here to escape that ****.

yes, but considering how badly the polls skew, thats a pretty good number.

RE: Biden lags among Florida Hispanic voters
Here's a Politico article from earlier in the year that lays out why its panic mode for democrats.

If Hillary Clinton had improved her share of the Hispanic vote by just 3 percentage points in Florida (from 62 percent to 65 percent of the Hispanic vote) and Michigan (from 59 percent to 62 percent), she would have won both states and their combined 45 Electoral College votes. That would have been enough to make her president. Slightly bigger swings—let alone the Democrats’ 88 percent-8 percent margin among African-Americans—could have added Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin into the blue column as well.

Now, here’s the brutal truth for Democrats: If Hispanic Americans are in fact showing surging approval of Trump, he could be on his way to matching or exceeding the 40 percent won by George W. Bush in his 2004. If Trump does 12 percentage points better than his 2016 numbers with the growing Hispanic vote, it pretty much takes Florida, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina off the table for Democrats, who would need to sweep Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to reach the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the White House. At the same time, that 12-point shift would give Trump a clear shot at winning Colorado and Nevada, states where Hispanic voters make up well over 10 percent of the electorate and where Clinton won by 5 percentage points or less in 2016.
