NIMBY Alliance
Quote:It appears that champion of the people Robert Reich, former Treasury Secretary in the Clinton administration and all-around Trump hater, has signed onto a letter attempting to gain landmark status for a dilapidated property in his Berkeley neighborhood which would then stop a new building with one unit set aside for a low-income buyer:

It's different when it's your own neighborhood.

It gets better. . .

“Literally on the same day of that letter opposing affordable housing, @RBReich released this article supporting affordable housing”:

Time to Invest in Affordable Housing and Education, Not Tear Gas, Batons, and State-Sanctioned Murder

Read it here.

You've got to laugh at this stuff. Libs are all for these affordable housing units, green windmill farms, etc. - as long as they are not in their neighborhoods or close enough to be seen by them. NIMBY Alliance indeed.

In Illinois, you can hit that amount of property taxes on a house that isn't even worth $250k....

Yep.

They did a study and found that raising any other type of tax will drive residents/businesses out of state en masse. All other types of taxes were already almost the highest in the country. But raising property taxes will lower property values, so there'd be no point to moving because you don't have the equity you used to anymore.

It's also fairer - unlike sales taxes or income taxes which hit everyone, the burden of property taxes largely falls on the people who made the mess (long-tenured state employees, and old people who have benefited from the state's largesse for decades).
