left lean of "fact-checkers"

"...That discord is likely to persist because in large part the fact-checking solution is illusory. Many such efforts fail because they amount to a circular feedback loop of verification. The fact-checkers are like-minded journalists or often liberal Silicon Valley gatekeepers, who frequently rely on partisan news sources and political activists to control narratives on a wide variety of issues and controversies. This small group of players exerts an oversized influence, using fact checks to shape and censor information...."

Fact checks would be useful if they stuck to actual facts. But of course, they frequently venture into the realm of opinion.

And they never "fact check" obvious lies such as "1/4th of women are sexually abused in college" or "1/5th of American kids go to bed hungry" or "21% of Americans are functionally illiterate" or "accusers never lie."

Or

Obama and Kerry successfully got Syria's Assad to get rid of his chemical weapons.

So... a couple of things about Snopes...

Fast forward to 13:50.

The one and only fact checker for Snopes is Kim LaCapria... also known as sex blogger, Vice Vixen.

Some of the 'fact checks' I've seen have gone so far out of their way to prove something 'mostly true' or 'mostly false' that its almost embarassing.

The problem is the “facts” most of the time are random anecdotes or inconsequential sentences. Trump embellishes a lot of small stuff but the efficacy is low.

Obama lies about being able to keep your health care plan to millions of Americans. We took it at face value. Biggest lie which led to the 2010 midterm shallacking as well as 2014 and 2016.
