Why can’t the NCAA get their heads out of their......make a decision already.

Mobile, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville among many others, and more everyday. I expect a few to announce tomorrow as well. Yet they are still pushing to get these kids to start the football season on time. That just doesn’t compute with me. It lacks the consistency that you really look for in the people you put in leadership positions.

That’s the part about how a lot of people are actually stupid.

Plus they’re not having to worry about travel, money, etc. so in some scale they probably see playing high school football in empty stadiums as some controllable risk.

Yet, there are states that are pushing for high school sports to start on time, including Alabama, and this is while a lot of school systems are starting the year online with no kids in classrooms. I don’t see how you can justify getting kids on the field without getting kids in the classroom. Yes, some kids really need sports in their life, but more kids really need that education in the classroom.

You also have to remember a lot of people are stupid.

There are people here who have more pride in their 2A podunk high school football team than the local college that generates millions for the local economy.

Texas is postponing football for a month right now. Texas if all places. People who are thinking logically understand that football may be the most popular sport but it is also the sport with the most people in the closest contact for the greatest amount of time.

If the numbers had improved over the summer we probably wouldn’t be in this pickle. Unfortunately they didn’t for about 2/3 of the country. So here we are. Wanting to play but knowing it’s playing with fire.

Keep in mind Texas is only postponing 5A/6A. 1A-4A will start on time.

Board of Governors meets today. They can scrap the postseason below FBS. So it’ll be interesting to see if anything happens today.

I’m just getting impatient. 04-cheers

Now we're getting down to brass tacks.

I'm with you there, but I also don't see a reason why a decision needs to be mad now.

The NCAA sets season dates, amount of games that can be played, that sort of thing.

The NCAA is there for these types of situations, to help the schools and conferences work together to complete the season and except in FBS, provide a championship. The NCAA has done none of that, not for football, not for volleyball, not for cross country. Not for any level.

This is not only a football conversation, this is not only a FBS conversation, this is a conversation about the lack of leadership coming out of Indianapolis.

I thought the NCAA was there to chastise coaches for calling kids on days they weren't supposed to and rule college athletes ineligible because they won't shut down their YouTube channel.

The NCAA has a side hustle, and they are the bully in the neighborhood stealing kids lunch money.

Because the NCAA has little to do with FBS football.

Then explain FCS, DII and DIII, they are all in the same mess, conferences are all over the map about how they are handling this. Emmert needs to be fired!!! No direction.

The NCAA does have control over lower level football, but FBS is just sanctioned by NCAA. They have no control over what leagues do.

The NCAA had meetings today about fall championships. They made no decisions and kicked that can down the road until Aug 4th.

Somewhat expected. They’re all trying to stretch this until the time camps are supposed to open.

The NCAA has control over all fall sports that aren't FBS football. They have NOTHING to do with FBS football as far as cancelling the season is concerned. The individual leagues will make those decisions.

And, they won't be making them any time soon. The Big 10, the Pac 12 and the ACC have made their (tentative) decisions. But the Big 12 and SEC are taking a wait and see attitude. They said end of July but I'm hearing they will wait longer, perhaps Aug 10 or later.

Now, one thing to look at is the opening of schools. Schools that aren't open won't be playing football. The STUDENT-athlete puts the STUDENT first.

Coastal has already pushed back their in person classes until Sept 8, which is after the first playing date.

I would have thought the money sports would be enough to put the "athlete" first and play even in the face of a closed school. You really do think it'll be that straightforward if schools don't open?

USA South, a DIII conference has announced moving fall sports until the spring. More lower level conferences are moving until spring, still with no NCAA announcement or decision.

FBS football isn’t moving to the Spring. So go ahead and just mark that down on your checklist.

I can't imagine football in the spring.
