I understand the US appalled with how the Chinese are treating the Eiughars and they have that right to complain. But I think that's the limit of our involvement with that matter.

If the Muslim countries don't give a rats S what China is doing to their people why should we. Why should we be the world's policement when we aren't allowed to police our own country by our friendly Communist mayors and governors plus our loud mouth Congress people.

If the Muslim countrys really cared about the issue they could put a stop to it really, really quickly. The Chinese are dependent on their oil and if the Ahabs grew some gonads they could tell the Chinese to stop it or they'll stop the flow of that precious black gold. They would have to stick to their guns for the Chinese to believe them but the Eiugher situation would end in a week, believe me. China like the Japanese prior to WWII needed that oil to continue their world conquest and China, while not conquering the world with violence is doing it the economic way. Stop that flow and you have the Chinese where you want them, easy peasy.

Obviously, no one (least of all the US) is going to invade PRC in order to help the Uyghurs or for any reason. But we can do a lot of other things to make life less pleasant for the PRC’s dictators. And for the slimy American businesses that hold their coat and either approve of what’s going on, or just pretend not to notice.

I have zero problem boycotting Nike, the NBA and Apple. Unfortunately, some of it - like the phone - may be out of your control if it's a work phone. Otherwise, are people prepared to boycott their favorite sports teams who wear Nike gear until said teams switch to a different brand or Nike pulls 100% out of China? I doubt it, but I think that is what you would have to do if you truly want China to change. You may be able to hurt Apple enough on the personal electronics side. NBA can easily be brought to their knees if everyone tunes out until they sh!tcan all of their ties to China.

I think they want someone who is less independent, more closely beholden to them, financially and politically. someone less likely to go off-script in public.
