We've had an issue in San Diego with a stubborn ship fire but nothing close to what Iran is dealing with. So far, 7 Iranian ships are burning/have burned. They suspect Israel or U.S. sabotage but can't prove it.
Ya think?
Quote:The types of the seven vessels on fire on Wednesday, July 15, and what caused the blazes were not revealed in the first official report from Tehran. The incident followed a string of mysterious explosions at Iran’s nuclear, military and missile production sites ongoing since late June.
DEBKAfile: If this suspected campaign of sabotage has been extended to encompass Iran’s navy, it would be a serious escalation, amounting to a threat to Iran’s claim to control the Persian Gulf and its waters.
Quote:A fire broke out Wednesday at an Iranian shipyard in the southwestern port of Bushehr, damaging several vessels under construction without causing any casualties, local media reported.
“An extensive fire has engulfed Delvar Kashti Bushehr boat factory,” with thick smoke covering the area south of Bushehr city, state television IRIB reported.
At least seven ships caught fire, the Tasnim news agency reported. The cause of the fire was unknown, Bushehr government official Jahangir Dehghani was quoted as saying by the semi-official ISNA news agency.
..snip...
Bushehr Province, of which the eponymous port city is the capital, is where Iran’s sole nuclear plant is located.
The incident was the latest in string of mysterious fires and blasts to rock the country. Several of the recent disasters have struck sensitive Iranian sites, leading to speculation that they could be part of a sabotage campaign engineered by Israel.

I think it is certain that it is an act of sabotage, but by whom? I would not hastily dismiss the involvement of a foreign country, but it appears that it is coming internally by the number of fires. My guess is that it is a rival faction or a contrived reason to restrict freedoms or a reason to pursue their blamed enemy. Possibly a similar situation as 9/11 and the US's war on terrorism.

Probably so..but..the last video of the Iranian Navy at work looked like they had machine guns on Carolina Skiffs.. Not much Naval technology.
Yeah---thats pretty much the standard for the Revolutionary Guard "Navy". The Iranian government also has a more traditional naval force----not a lot---mostly frigates, missile boats, and subs.

Its wonderful..regardless of who is responsible.
There's more than the normal amount of unrest in Iran right now.
Iran's population is one of the youngest in the world. The young generation resents the octogenarian mullahs in charge. Their own media is tightly controlled, but anyone under 40 has grown up with exposure to American culture through the supposedly-illegal-but-winked-at satellite tv and internet, and a large chunk of the country can get tv & radio broadcasts from Iraqi & Turkish & Saudi channels. There's a small core of hardliners (maybe 10%) that is able to use their control of the traditional media and the military to keep unrest to a minimum.
When their military shot down a Ukranian civilian jetliner in January after it took off from Tehran's airport, it really opened a lot of people's eyes to the lies their government has been feeding them. They're starting to think that maybe the West isn't all evil.
Especially in Tehran. Tehran is the size of greater Los Angeles (15 million) and is the most liberal city and most educated city in the Middle East (other than maybe Beirut or Dubai). Very few hardliners in Tehran, but the country is mostly rural.
I'm not just speculating - one of my best friends is from Iran, and he said in the last few months he's had a lot of people he grew up with tell him he was right all along about the regime.
