What music are you listening to? Maybe I’d like it.

I have really been getting into Blackberry Smoke this year. Complete southern rock band. I’m diggin’ them. Aint Much Left of Me and The Good Life are a couple favorites.

I haven't been able to find anything new that I'm interested in. Been listening to some Eagles and .38 special lately.

Two of my favs. I’ve seen 38 Special twice in concert in the last 2 years. Would love to see the Eagles. They’re on my bucket list.

It’s a sign that I’m getting old, but I was introduced to Spotify last year. Now I can listen to what I want, when I want. I listen to a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd or a mix of music from pre 1983ish with some 80’s hair bands mixed in, and a whole lotta outlaw country.

Sounds like we should hang out and cook some BBQ. Throw some Metallica in there and we have something.

Yours truly is, and will always remain, "stuck in the '80s."

So BBQ and '80s tunes sounds "rad" and "totally awesome." Count me in, and I'll bring you guys some complementary Bellarmine gear, so you can have a new second-favorite team in the conference.

As for the specifics of what I'm listening to, in addition to the zillions of classics from my favorite decade, I like that there's been a "retrowave"/"synthwave" movement over the last decade or so, with some new groups making music with a very '80s, synthesized feel. Often, the bands will include a year from the '80s in their name: FM-84, Timecop1983, M83, September 87, Miami Nights 1984, etc.

An example of this sweet (to me) sound is:

If I’m drivin’ in my car, the radio is usually set to The Outlaw, a country music station featuring outlaw and red dirt country as well as southern rock.

Occasionally I’ll flip between a couple classic rock stations.

I also like blues music.

Fortunately, I have seen him live, at the Grand Ole Opry and he put on a show in Florence one night while he was recording an album in the late 90s....

He was truly a humble human being, the show was an out of the blue show, only a couple of hundred people if that and afterwards he shook hands at the door and talked, kind of like an old school preacher would do after church. Then I watched him get into his pickup and drive off...

Pretty ticked off that my favorite local radio station changed its format unannounced yesterday. They went from The Outlaw: Today’s Best Red Dirt Country and Southern Rock to New Real Classic Country. Classic country is fine, but you can find that on just about any country station.

One of our local stations got to where they would just play the newest country(if you want to call it country) and pretty much everyone stopped listening. It wasnt long until they started playing what people wanted.

Anyway, I've been listening to Metallicas Load and Reload albums the past few days. Very underrated Metallica albums.

Local band from where I grew up called The Grecian Urns. They put together one full album before they went their separate ways to school, & they just uploaded it to Spotify a month or so ago.

I like the vibe. Feels like home.

I'd best describe it as indy/beach indy.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD

Because today, 20 Oct., is the 43rd anniversary of their tour plane going down, killing Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines.

So go ahead, crank up a little Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird!

Little Skynyrd fun facts

They did a lot of writing in the Florence/Muscle Shoals area.

Several photos on their albums were shot in the area.

But because of contract issues they were not actually allowed to record an album here. There is a song that is loosely about that situation.

In the song Sweet Home Alabama, they mention the Swampers, they were the house band that was used to record hundreds of hits in the 60s and 70s. They were just local guys that could really grove together. Most people thought they were black because of their "soul in their sound" but they were just a bunch of country boys from the area.

If you haven't watched the documentary Muscle Shoals, I highly recommend it if you are into music history.

So thrilled that whenever I walk through the house my youngest son is always jammin’ to Credence Clearwater Revival. He’s started to mix in a little Blackberry Smoke. 04-cheers
