It's amazing that the petty attempt to sabotage the convention is fine, but standing up for yourself and simply choosing to take your business elsewhere isn't. That's a glimpse into the future of democratic rule, not only will dissenters be harassed and persecuted, but you'll also be in the wrong if you fight it.

No shock there. Nor is it surprise that DNC blacks are saying that problem will be resolved after Biden is elected. It’s all naked pandering at this point.

What's sad about that is he's not even attempting to hide that black voters are an afterthought and completely taken for granted as a given to vote for Dems, and he's right they will. If the GOP actually made a good faith effort to talk to the black community and address their issues and concerns they could actually start to win over larger and larger % of their votes, but for whatever reason they don't give off the appearance that they do.

It makes no sense to me either. Any party just essentially "conceding" a group of voters is both bad politics and bad for that group as a whole. Corporate Dems have almost abandoned the idea they could ever win back white working class voters that shifted to Trump, writing them off as racists and deplorable's, and it's idiotic. Yes it would require effort and listening to their concerns and addressing them to win them back, but to me it just seems like both parties care more about trying to paint the other as existentially evil instead of making an affirmative case for how what they want will help people.

Jack Kemp was probably the republican most in tune with the need to attract black and working class voters. Unfortunately, nobody in the republican establishment gave him the time of day until it was too late. He was the VP candidate with Bob Dole in 1996, but Dole was just a lifer whose turn it was, and was never going to beat Bill Clinton. I voted Libertarian as usual in 1996 (Harry Browne and Jo Jorgensen), but if there had been a way to split my ticket and vote Clinton/Kemp, I would have been tempted.

I guess the thing that really bothered me is that Kemp and GHWB had some kind of strong dislike for each other. I still think a Bush/Kemp ticket would have been much stronger than Bush/Quayle. Let Bush handle foreign policy and Kemp handle domestic policy, and I think they would have stood a good chance of winning again in 1992. Of course, that would probably have meant never having Bill Clinton as president, and I still consider him the best democrat president of my lifetime (JFK had really too short a term to be considered, and except for Truman the rest are all too awful to consider).

Actually read a piece not too long alone that claimed Dukakis never recovered from that PR blunder.

Honestly that’s the only thing I remember about Dukakis or Ferraro.

So, they send Biden back to his basement now?
