Lowest single-day total of COVID-19 deaths since March 29
Quote:The United States had the lowest single-day total of COVID-19 deaths since March 29, according to the data aggregation website Worldometers.

The U.S. documented 750 deaths from the coronavirus on May 10, the lowest number since March 29, when there were 497 reported deaths from the virus. Coronavirus deaths peaked in the U.S. on April 21, when a recorded 2,683 people died from COVID-19, according to Worldometers.

"Lowest number of new cases and lowest number of new deaths since the end of March," Worldometers wrote of Sunday's figures.

The U.S. recorded its first COVID-19 death on Feb. 29. Since then, 80,000 people have died after contracting the coronavirus, but daily deaths have been declining since May 6.

Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, warned Sunday that between 60% and 70% of people in the U.S. would contract COVID-19.

"We have to understand that we’re riding this tiger, we’re not directing it. This virus is going to do what it's going to do,” he told Meet The Press. “What we can do is only nibble at the edges, and I think it’s not a good message to send to the public that we can control this virus in a meaningful way. And what I mean by that — even though, as Jeffrey just said, some countries have been able to suppress this somewhat — Korea’s now got a major outbreak problem occurring. Germany has had an increase in cases.”

"What we have to tell people honestly, what they want to hear, they don’t want it sugarcoated, and they don’t want it coated in fear. But somewhere between now and tomorrow, next year, we’re going to see 60% to 70% of Americans ultimately infected with this virus."

What happened to the much touted "3000 per day" that was pumped out all last week?

Under 1000 is very good news. Hopefully the trend continues.

I have a feeling the "number of new cases" will rise, but that, IMO, is a good thing in that without that increase there can be no herd immunity development. I still don't get the scientific reason the MSM treats every new "case" as if it's the end of the world.

I've been paying very close attention to the numbers for almost 2 months now. Sundays always are significantly lower totals than the rest of the week - most likely since many states don't enter in all their reporting figures until Monday (or even Tuesday in some cases). If we see a similar trend today and tomorrow, then yes, this is very good and very significant news.

And early indications are that today's totals are going to be much lower than they have been lately too. For instance as of 1:45 pm Central time, that site is only showing 411 new cases in New York and 62 deaths (and just 48 deaths in New Jersey, which is also its lowest total in 5 or 6 weeks). It's possible those states increase their numbers later today - or just report everything tomorrow so we might see 300-400 deaths in each state then. But if not, then I'd say at the very least that the NY tri-state area is finally seeing a significant decrease.

Keep in mind too FBO, that most tests now take 48 hours to process.

So what we're seeing today are people that were tested Friday afternoon-Saturday morning.. Typically at a hospital you don't get a ton of admissions on the weekend and doctors unfortunately try to discharge as many as possible on the weekend.

I figure by Wednesday/Thursday we'll see a surge in number from the tests done today.

But the media and liberals will say we need to stay locked down for fear of a possible 2nd wave in 6 months

Let me clarify my above statement of the numbers here.. Those numbers are positive cases not deaths.

Secondly, I believe we'll see a second wave, I don't think it'll be as devastating as what we're seeing now.

If we had the Boortz-Linder predate/prefund, people would already be getting a check every month. It would be a political decision to add more, if appropriate, but they would already be getting checks.

If we had the German kurzarbeit we might have been able to keep half the workers that got laid off working.

And if we borrowed from Sweden and Japan, kept the economy open, made everybody who could work from home do so, quarantined all high-risk people and anybody who tested positive (in separate places, not like NY), and made everybody wear masks in public, we would have kept the economy going and probably had both way fewer people laid off and fewer deaths.

Then all we need is a Manhattan Project to develop a vaccine and a cure, and we'd be in good shape.

Kurzarbeit would never fly here, sadly
