We continue our look at some distinctively named buildings, lawns/greens, streets, etc., found on or near Big East university campuses. As noted previously, my goal is to find a minimum of two and to post regarding one school per week.

Moving from East to West, we have touched on Providence, UConn, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown and Xavier. Up next, Butler University in Indianapolis.

We now take a look at some distinctively named businesses found near Big East university campuses (roughly no more than seven blocks from each campus). My goal is to find a minimum of five and to post regarding one school per week.

Moving from East to West, we first look at Providence.

There are a few more distinctly named businesses that are closer to campus than the majority of these. The Tombs, Wisemiller’s Deli (Wisey’s), and 1789 Restaurant are all about a block off campus. Booeymonger (Booey’s) is about 5 blocks away. All four are GU institutions and have been for decades.

Also, DP dough (a UCONN submission)?is a national chain with dozens of locations, largely in college towns, but also in cities- I’ve got one a few blocks away from me in Denver.

Cheers for this series!

Excellent catches on my omissions for GU. Agree with all.

As to DP Dough ... ouch. I had no intention of including chains and am a bit embarrassed.

Glad you're enjoying the series, VCE.

As noted, and regarding Big East campuses, I am geographically moving from east to west. We've touched on the Providence, Connecticut and Saint John's campuses. As to Seton Hall ...

A smallish campus (only 58 acres) with a modest number of classroom and office buildings. Of note, the campus is surrounded by residential areas. Very little commercial near SHU.

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception structure is gorgeous (I'm a fan of traditional Catholic church buildings, so I'm biased).

In the center of the campus is a circular green space with sidewalks suggest the spokes of a wheel. Maybe one of the posters on this board and who knows the campus can provide insight.

On a positive note, the campus offers minimal surface parking and it's contained to the east segment of the overall space.;

I have never visited this campus and would like to as it seems quaint and well-manicured from on-high via Google Street View

I toured SH with my middle son in 2019. The university has done a really nice job in redevelopment of the campus. It's much nicer than I remember when several of my buddies went there. It is compact and very walkable. Like St John's it is fenced off from the surrounding community. The baseball and softball fields are actually partly in Ivy Hill Park. The university has a user agreement with Essex County to maintain the facilities. A good number of students live off campus in apartment buildings in South Orange. There used to be several good bars in SO - Cryans, Ryans and Stuffed Shirt - that I think are all gone now. We'd close those places, then head to The Hall which was able to stay open two hours later, because it was over the line in Newark. The law school is located in Newark by the Prudential Center and there is a new medical school in Nutley that is run in partnership with Hackensack Meridian Hospital.
