According to this site (as of yesterday), 106 thousand of New York's 114 thousand cases of the virus are in the 9 counties that make up New York City and its nearest suburbs (Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, etc.).

Kings County (Brooklyn) has 17,504 cases and a 52.1 percent positive test case result.
Queens County (Queens) has 20,114 cases and a 56.8 percent positive test case result.

To put that in perspective, New Jersey is the only state with more cases than Brooklyn or Queens, and those 2 boroughs are higher than every other state such as California (12,850 cases).

Manhattan has 9300 cases and a 40.9 percent positive test case. The Bronx has 12,315 and a 51.4 percent case positive result. Perhaps some of that is people in Manhattan are a bit healthier, but there are more people in Manhattan than in the Bronx. I'm convinced the subways have a lot to do with this and that's the next thing they need to shut down.

9300 out of 1.619 million people. Guess the percent.

Less than the OD or pneumonia rate?

That’s my guess

And just to be clear, NJ’s cases are mostly in the areas immediately around NYC. I live in South Jersey, in a county of roughly 450k in population and we have less than 500 confirmed cases with only 5 deaths.

New York just updated its numbers (you can always tell when that happens when the worldometers numbers go berserk). About 600 new deaths yesterday (although they tend to update their numbers twice a day - once in the morning mostly deals with NYC numbers and then once late in the day for some other counties - so my guess is they're close to 1000 deaths a day now).

Anyway their new numbers say 16,479 people currently hospitalized, 4376 ICU patients (up 250 from the previous day) and 12,187 patients discharged.

They still predict their apex is 6-9 days away.

I'm still not seeing any signs this thing is out of control anywhere new.

Honestly, not being an ahole but I don't trust any numbers from New York. The level of mismanagement, incompetence and deception practiced by their leadership is without compare.

I'd really like to know what percentage of those that died had an underlying problem to begin with. We know that the oldsters in nursing homes aren't in the greatest of health to begin with but what about the normal populace? I know that it attacks the lungs and so how many people that have died were suffering from COPD, asthma, diabetes or any other sickness where not getting the optimum amount of oxygen from the lungs would prove fatal. These people have trouble breathing to begin with. Like today there was news that a 5 year old child died from Covid but that child already had health problems.

I'm going to invent a mask made from coffee filters today. 03-wink I wonder how many I'd need to maximize protection?
